just a comment or 2cents from me...

One has to be very carefully shaving anything off brake parts... or you might be in a bad accident and the
emergency crew might have to shave you off the tar.. gross!

i suppose any drilling etc MUST be done by a engineering shop with precision equipment!! and as far as shaving metal off calipers etc.. one must take into account that possibly weakening a caliper is not a good idea!

i reckon a straight bolt on upgrade is better, possibly more expensive. but safer..

ciao

Stu, looking at 300.de they say the 312mm discs will go under 16" Hartge or AC Schnitzer only. Demlot can confirm if this correct.

Cheers,

Rich.

stuartgallafant, have you had any luck with the calipers ?
I've got a set of E46 325 calipers that fit under the 15" because the E32 set were too big, trouble is the pads dont look any bigger than the E30 set. So if you can get hold of a pad for the 330i it would be a big help, Cheers.

Yeah, the E32 carrier fits it though so i'm trying to find a pad that will fit between the two. GSF were out of stock earlier :(

Stu sorry to be a pain but do you know what the 330i calipers look like ? (or anyone else)
I can get a set but they have to be orderd. I don't want to waist the guys time if they are too big, so if you can let me know which of these they most look like (or a pic) it could save me some time, cheers.
The problem is the bit on the right with the numbers on just touches the wheel behind the spokes.

E46 325i, fit fine but could do with a bigger piston and pad.

E32, too damn big but the pad fits perfect :(

Thats an idea. I'm kind of set against using the E32 set now though due to the weight.

put it this way, the less unsprung weight - the better. your car will handle and react a lot better

Sorry to be slightly off topic, ive been reading this post with intrest, however i have a spare 530i e34 - could the brakes possibly fit the e30, obviously id need 4 by 100mm discs, but that shouldnt be a major problem.Just thinking it may be a cheap upgrade. Cheers Alex

Depends what wheels and discs you put on it, i think you have the same calipers as the E32 ones above with the 60mm piston.

I dont know to be honest, however ill find out the size of the 530i discs (as the 5's wheels are 15" - they - if 4 by 100 - will fit the e30) and find sumthing 4 by 100 the same size as the e30, if you get me?I have acess at work to actual sizes etc of all makes and models discs. Do you think all the effort would be worth it?

The E34 has 302x22mm discs, they fit under the 5's wheels because they are wider but don't fit under the E30 BBS wheels.
The biggest disc i could work with is the 288mm.
As for all the effort paying off :? How would your 530i stop if it weighed as much as an E30 ?

I have a pair of 3 door Cosworth 4 pot calipers, does any one know if these fit the e30?

Apparently these calipers were also used on the e23 735i and the LHD 745i cars.

hey guys.
Im running some 18's  , and need sum bit breaks to fill the hole, as it looks like im running compact discs atm!
I work in a cardiff based car spares shop. so if anyone needs info just pm me.
the e34 540 calipers are the same as the e34 m5's.. looking into getting a reconditioned set as they are quite reasonable. The only thing holding me back in doing this conversion is getting the discs machined, will this weaken the disc?

p.s i know people say dont go bigger then 16's, but you have to see and have a go in my car, then u may change your mind!!

Doubt it, the 5 has a bigger hub and the disc height is greater so it will sit further back and probably hit the steering ball joint on the E30's little hub carrier.
Audi disc's are the only ones that came close but are still not perfect, if you find any others though let us know.
