Need help with my current dilema
Have a 318is in pretty good nick mechanically but bit scruffy cosmetically (rusty bootlid, ripped front seats, no stereo, carpets manky etc.)
Do I trawl Ebay and restore it to it's former glory or bin the ropey interior and go for a stripped out trackday hack?
My head says restore - think of the resale, much nicer to drive on the road, my heart says sod that, rip it all out and make it fly.
help
Stripped out or original glory?

I don't know. I am in the same position but with a good interior.
It really depends what else you have and what you want it for. It would be a great track car, and if that is what you are going to use it for you maximum performance gain for minimum costs (£0 cost!!!) is to strip it - it will also make a cage easier to fit......
Decisions, decisions......

I like the idea of a semi track day car, something I have been thinking about, no back seat, cage, tinted rear windows and 2x cobra bucket seats up front. Replace the back seats with some sound deadning material.
Anyone done anything like this or should I just go get my coat????

PS. If so can we see pictures?

Afraid I have to agree with Jon. Restore this one and get a standard 318 / 320 to strip for track day and speed.jon_pure_british wrote:restore it mate it is an IS!!
Or buy a cheap E30 with the bits you need and make the IS nice and then strip the replacement.
Definately original glory for the is and stripped out for a more standard one. Less elecs and toys means even less weight too...
Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring
meh its worth naff all anyways so strip it guts
agree with that!
if it was a low milege minter i would say leave it as it is, but as theyre not all that rare, it doesnt seem worth spending time and money to make it good.
you'll be suprised at how much more fun a stripped out car is to drive. as long as you can put up with the noise.
andd, if you want a stripped out track project, you may as well start with one with a decent engine. no point selling and buying a normal 318 to strip and then spend money tuning it.
