Will a 60/60 drop make it seem like I've just driven out of the local council estate?

I've dropped my 325i 40mm but that's because it's on Bilstiens and it's used for the track. (see before and after on my site) http://www.whitetrack325i.webeden.co.uk

60mm is too much and I've voted 'council estate time' but 35mm would be cool

Also say NO to the abuse of M badges

My mates 325 cab is dropped by 80mm front and back and looks the nuts. Handles well too.
Drop it man, lowered cars always look better than standard, my mk1 escort had decambered rear springs and 2 inch lowering blocks at the back and group 4 billies and a 120mm drop at the front and looked the nuts.
It will be back this year with front coilovers and be lower!
No council estate here, just cool!

well i dont give a f**k about if people think im a chav, i might well be but i think they look so so much better on the floor mate, slam it, my old cabby was droped 60mm on saloon springs and shocks, so it was more like 80mm, but it looked the tits every time i went out some1 looked at it and said "wow i like that how low is it" get it droped mate, on a nice set of 17" alpinas, this pic is 40/60 40 at the front 60 at the back. and the blac1 is 60 as well

60/60 could be a bit much, went for the 40/40 and still quite drivable, we have some pretty rough roads here and plenty of well hidden speedbumps and i still make it over most things without major scrapin(although i did do me front spoiler the other day but was off roadin winkeye)

The H&R 60/40 is the best suspension kit as far as I'm concerned.

17" Alpinas are about the most council thing you can do to an e30.

Face it, most of you wouldn't know cool if it oversteered over your Next trainers.

Anyone with fake Alpinas on their car is banned from any discussions concerning what is and what isn't council.

17" and 18" alpinas look the tits, mind you i dont care what people think of me or my car iv got to drive it and im going for 18" alpinas and 60mm front and 80mm rear, i would onlg go 40 on 15" wheels as 60mm would be too low to use the car but i dont like 15" wheels, they look ok on other peoples cars just not on mine

yer i was selling it as i had a m3 and was going to get 1 like the 1 kos has on hi m3, but iv sold that now and iv got the sport, so im going to stick it on there, do they do alpina a strut brace if so if i can get 1 of them and they look good i will sell it m8, iv got some RD springs and shocks if you want them, iv got a RD anti roll bar as well but i want that, if i find any more RD bits on the car i will let you know m8

as for the 60/80 drop i think the wells will rub if i drop it 80 on the front and i like my cars low, i know my red1 isnt but only had it a week and i need to get it moted 1st as the last mot i went for we had probs checking the brakes

I knew this thread would end up like this :( everyone has different taste and we should all respect that. 15" with a 35-40mm drop does drive nicely but 17/18" slammed does look the dogs 8)

Cheers for all the replies...

Neil (320Touring), I already have M Tech suspension! Plus re practicality/travelling 4-up, I said it doesn't matter as it's not a daily car

Giles, it's your car that made me consider 60mm all round in the first place - on standard wheels (which I'll be keeping) it's obviously lower than standard but still looks very classy

Mahmood I missed your car at Aces :(

Cotty it matters what other people think. It sounds sad but I want the car to be appreciated by all :)

Demlot I've explained to you why the giant aerial is staying

Phil N, no H&R cup kit for the 1.8 cab unfortunately  And yeah a 60/60 drop with 17" Alpina reps would make you king of the local council estate. I did used to like them though 8O

Anyway, I think 60/40 would be the best option judging by the replies. 35 or 40 all round isn't good enough as I don't think it'll get rid of the gap in the front arch.

Just gonna go for springs with standard shocks - don't wanna spend too much money as a proper (and obviously heavier) engine will be finding its way into the engine bay soon enough.

At the moment it's between Spax 55/35 for 85 quid, or Jamex 60/40 which are suspiciously cheap at £69 :squint:

Didn't mean to start any arguments about Alpina reps :?

Might go and start a thread about whether Azev As are council or not winkeye

Am I not right in thinking that there comes a point where excessively lowering your vehicle will start to impede it's handling ability.

Sure a lowered car removes excess travel in the suspension, lowers the Centre of Gravity and looks cool as feck but it still retains some dampening ability in dealing with our lumpy bumpy roads.

Excessive lowering will resitric the suspensions ability to deal with Gordon Browns neglect of our road system. And suspension specifically design to handle this type of lowering is probably more suited to a race track

Do I have a point or am I spouting cod $h!t???

ok, just poking my head above the trench here....

but

When people drop cars why do they drop the back so the rears are hidden up to the wheel? Just seems to me that the front of that car looks perfect with the tire just clear of the arch, but the back looks wrong with the line of the tyre cutting the arch. I think the look of concentric circles at the front (arch, tyre, wheel) looks really good, but the arch shape at the back (arch, half a tyre, wheel) just looks ugly.

In my opinion of course ;)

Does anyone drop cars so the back wheels are just off the arches, like the fronts have to be?
