1.8 diff change to lsd
Moderator: martauto
My diff is in need of replacing on my 1.8i. I would like to upgrade to a lsd however i know that the smaller cased lsd's are rare. I would like to know how difficult it is to fit the larger type and how to shorten the prop shaft so it would fit?

The prop does need to be shortened as the large case diff input flange sits closer to the front of the car.RTA wrote:Thats what i first thought but im sure i read somewhere that the prop would need to be shortend to do it. But shit hot, now just got to find one at a good price. Thanks for the response fella's
You'd need to remove the exhaust and heatshields, to the rear of the prop centre bearing there is a threaded collar that needs to be loosened. This allows the rear half of the prop to slide forward in effect shortening the prop to allow the larger diff to fit.
Don't forget to tighten it back up afterwards, tight but not too tight.
A large case 3.91 diff from a facelift 325i sport would be ideal.
