Ok, need a bit of help with this one...

the coolant level check light is constantly on..
plenty of coolant in expansion tank..
checked resistance between the connectors to the sensor, it's fine..
replaced coolant level sensor..
light still on..

Why and where is the fault????

Any light that could be shed on this (excuse the pun) or if you have encountered this before, I would appreciate your help.

These can become defective especially if they have been clogged up, try a new sensor it should do the trick.

OP says he has changed the sensor.
Sensors eventually leak coolant into the stem, and the very thin leads to the reed swich inside corrode through.
As a check, short the two pins of the connector together with a piece of wire. This should turn the light out. Note that the ignition has to be turned off and on again to reset the light.
Where did your replacement sensor come from? There are two types available. One that fits in the 325 type seperate header tank with terminals upwards, and one that fits in the combined tank/radiator with the terminals downwards.
Fit the wrong one, and the light will be off with coolant empty, and on with the correct level.

it's an '89 325 and i got the sensor from a main dealer, so it fits into the seperate header tank and the terminals point upwards.

I will check it with the jumper wire trick and see where that leads me..

Main dealer should have got it right, but GSF sold me the wrong one once.

used a jumper wire between the terminals and the light stayed on, so.... that means that it's not completing the circuit and the wire has gone to ground and or broken somewhere between there and the bulb, right?

I've taken a quick look around at the wiring and there doesn't appear to be any obvious problems, what's the best way of finding where the problem is?

I've had another wire run to ground under the carpets, the boot lights were constantly on. I had the carpets out of her a few weeks back to have them dry out after the heater core valve packed in...do you think the 2 problems could be as a result of me disturbing something with the carpets?
