the ezy out snapped @#$%^.
Moderator: martauto
the ezy out snapped when I was trying to remove a snapped exhaust manifold stud. Off with the Head! Can you drill out an ezy out? Is there a good Head removal thread/how to that anyone can recommend? I've been riding my pushbike to work and I cannot be bothered anymore.
Eazi outs are harder than drill normally especially if there good quality easy outs, you could try a tungsten carbide or a cobalt drill but think you will be lucky.

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

As above, but failing that, start researching 'spark erosion'.
It looks like I will need to take the head off to get my son to weld a nut on as suggested. the stud has snapped off about 3 mm deep inside the head. Even with all the ancillary parts removed around the area, I do not see him getting a weld in with the head in situ. Any threads on head removal?

Ez-out? Easy snap, more like. Only used one once and it snapped. Was lucky though, it snapped above the seized stud so I had something to grip and undo. I don't think you'll be able to drill it out as they are too hard. If you have access to tig welding equipment you may be able to weld a blob onto the ez out to grip onto and undo it (clockwise). If not, spark erosion may be able to get it out. With the head in the bench you might be lucky and be able to tap it out with a small punch as they are tapered and only grip on a small section.
Not a purist.

Alternatively, drill lots of small holes around the Eezi-out, which should then make either it and/or the stud easier to remove.

Got it out. Oh Yeah!!!!!!! My son put a weld in and then welded a nut to the top. 3 attempts and then it came out. What a great sensation as the stud spun free.
Next question the torque wiki gives two amounts for putting in new studs: (M6 bolts) 10Nm and 15Nm. So is it 12.5 Nm?
Should I put the new studs into the head with lock tight? Will copper grease on the new bolts be a good Idea? So that I can get the bolts of in the future. Or will the grease allow the bolts to fall off while I am driving?
