Try to keep both of your tyres on the same surface type.

LSD means more traction, so without one you're more likely to get yourself stuck when setting off/going uphill. It's just harder to get the power down.
I've never driven an E30 with an LSD but my previous Jeep had one and it was Godly in snow, even in 2WD, as long as the tyres were right of course. The current Jeep doesn't have one, but is on exactly the same type of tyres so I'll probably be doing some decent back to back comparison by the end of the winter!

Leave it on the drive if you've gotten no LSD.. The smallest gradient to the end of my street and i couldn't make it.

Dunno what you tarts are whining about. I've thundered up and down the Polish mountains in the snow with an open diff.

On winter tyres I'd imagine? IMO They make the biggest single difference.

Same. It's fun for a few days at most, sledging and doing silly shit on country lanes, but for the following weeks when its packed down to sheet ice and everyone is driving at single digit speeds it gets old pretty fast.
