MDF is good for mock ups as it works easily.Lurch320i wrote:Ok cool.ill mock up the caliper and disc first.see how much i need and what size it'll be.then i can go from there.ill make it from wood or something first

You wont need it an inch thick. 15mm would be more than enough I would have thought.

Ok cool thanks for the advice.i won't know how thick until i get the caliper mounted with the disc in place.ill keep you all posted.
Should i tap the aluminium where it bolts to the caliper or put a nut and bolt through?

The right way to do it would be, drill it then use a helicoil to thread it. You can tap aluminium, but the threaded insert is much stronger. You have to assume the calipers will be off and on to change pads. No matter how careful you are, aluminium threads just go bad sometimes.Lurch320i wrote:Ok cool thanks for the advice.i won't know how thick until i get the caliper mounted with the disc in place.ill keep you all posted.

IF the calipers are Brembo's and I think they are, then you'll have problems fitting anything less than a 302mm disk with those calipers.
I know coz I tried it quite a few years ago with 302x28mm disks and they sqeezed under a 16" rim with a high offset. It took a while till I found a thick enough1pc disk that had the correct offset, but I did manage to find a suitable one after several hours checking disk specs in the "bible" (Mintex book)
Standard master cylinder works fine with the 4 pots and E30 M3 one works fine with large pistoned 6 pots.
There's no need to change the rear unless it's a serious track car.

They do look rather large, so I need to get the tape measure out. But a head start would be nice. Cheers.

Minimum of 12mm if using steel and 15mm if using aluminium otherwise it could flex.maggspower wrote:MDF is good for mock ups as it works easily.Lurch320i wrote:Ok cool.ill mock up the caliper and disc first.see how much i need and what size it'll be.then i can go from there.ill make it from wood or something first

I use 18mm minimum with the 6 pots
Mdf is good enough to use for making the buck(template)
Pretty sure I still have the original one i used for the 4 pots somewhere. I may still have a drawing (with dimensions)or scan of it somewhere as well.

I used off the shelf Veco ones for about £22ish from the local motor factors. Worked fine for hooning around up heremaggspower wrote:I would be starting with standard ones, remember if you start using performance pads you are going to have issues getting heat in to them to get them up to optimum operating temp. Lurch I read somewhere the Honda S2000 discs have been used with the R32 calipers.

I may pm you back now.
We spent a lot of time (and a horrible amount of cash) going down dead ends trying to get the best disc to use on our WMS kits, and nothing that's a straight fit is worth using! A couple of points though:
- We use 6082-T6 for our brackets.
- Threaded inserts are a good idea, we go one better than helicoils by using a thicker stainless steel "solid" insert...not a "spring" style like the helicoil.
- The bore is indeed 66mm on the disc (not the wheel)

Hi - we use the well known G60 280x22 disc....and our "other one", the 298.5mm jobbie. Trade secret though I'm afraid and not a standard disc (but I don't think it'll work with your calipers anyway).

No it properly won't.i was thinking going for the 288mm disc as the standard skyline disc was 280x30mm so 288x28mm isnt that far off.just change the pads before they the pistons pop out.
It fit straights onto the hub.yes it needs redrilling to 4x100 but has a 34.1mm hat height so very similar to standard.
Do you think this will work?

I honestly can't say!

I will prob buy one of your kits for the rear as i can't find any discs that will fit and keep the handbrake standard.
What sizes are your rear brake kits? 290x?mm
Cheers

It's up for review when I get another batch of calipers made, I've got a few brackets and just 1pr of discs on the shelf from memory.
It's roughly the same cost as the front kits, the discs take so much work to make them fit that they make up for the smaller/cheaper rear caliper!

Rear 290x19 E30-fit modified are £160.25+vat/pr, 298.5x24 front E30-fit discs (the biggest we do) are £101.71+vat/pr.
I've got a pair of Audi TT 312x25 discs sitting on a shelf that might be more like you're looking for?

I will possibly have a set of rear discs from you depending on how my Christmas shopping goes.May see what other discs i can use at the front as i need at least 28mm thick so the caliper doesn't loose its pistons
