I wouldn't advise as sounds like a nice car and it may scratch it, plus don't think its the best car for the job, I may be wrong though, I didn't even think you could get a bike rack for a old coupe??
Yeah saloons are crap for transporting bikes!! No room inside for the crate of stuff I take MTB'ng and couldn't find an decent rack to hang them off on the back unless you have a detatchable towbar! The Tech II rear spoiler gets in the way. I bought a really nice lightweight plastic adjustable one (a proper one, not some Halfords tat) that would be perfect but spoiler gets in the way. Use a second car or jump in with a mate

Oi!! DH is for plebs who can't afford to do proper motocross and don't live close enough to the sea to be bad surfers. XC is a purist's sport, for those who can hustle a bike across any landscape at maximum velocity without needing to resort to a van to get up hills.verde wrote:What kinda bike you got, hope its DH and none of this XC wrongness.
haha im only teasing, downhill is great fun but its not for everyone. i need to build a new bike next year, stuck on the bmx for nowsnakebrain wrote:Oi!! This is what I use. It'll fit on a normal tow ball or one of those removable types. You can get these in 1, 2, 3 or even 4 bike racks and they'll carry any type of bike. I got this one off ebay a couple of years ago and've been really pleased with it, its easy to fit and remove from the car and the bike only takes 2 mins to strap on and sits nice and secure . . .

I reject your idea of reality and replace it with my own

I think of extreme XC being my thing- twisty downhill gnarlyness, tech climbs and rolling tracks. Hence the Dawg- does it all most admirably
Tow bar route is the way to go if E30 is your daily.

I have got a saris bones rack for my saloon, it has an arch to it that you can adjust so should clear a spoiler. Got it because it can fit on most cars so I can swap it between the e30 and the wifes jazz. It has rubber feet which rest on the boot lid and bumper with straps to hold it:

if it's a saloon just take the wheels off the bike and squash it in the boot.
its a cross country hardtail bike that me and a few mates just go to a local forest and hack round the trails! the e30 is the daily so its either use that or use my other car which is a 1977 mini which is my pride and joy little retro classic which i dont think i could do it! lol
will just jump in with a mate i reckon! thinking of doing a long weekend away soon to wales or the lakes if any1 fancy's the idea?? (p.s We're only fat unfit novice's that like to go biking once a month as our only excercise! lol)

I wouldnt use any e30 for a bike rack, maybe a touring, depends on your budget though and if thats your main car, or if you can afford another, I know I had a mk1 golf convertible with bike rack mounting brackets on it and had scratches all over the boot lid and rear vallance so wouldnt advise it if in good condition
Yeah I got that one also but it just rests on the Tech II spoiler when stationary and imagine what it would do whilst drivingChimmychanga wrote:I have got a saris bones rack for my saloon, it has an arch to it that you can adjust so should clear a spoiler.
