fixed and will pass an mot.

if ever you need to change the lollipop bush again [which i doubt] just grind the weld off.

jobbed !
Is what I had to do at a track last month, the captive is shagged in mine, I jammed a big bolt in as a locator and had it welded within a inch of its life

If you have the welder at hand, you may as well do the job properly, and use it instead to get the broken bolt out, and fit a new one in, then you've got peace of mind knowing that the lollipop is properly attached. Especially important on a powerful-engined car that you may be throwing about a bit.

perhaps the rock hard ride of your "stanced" motor has hurt your back?

I know when I fucked my back up, I didn't work for a month, and I fix motors for a living.

it appears we are going nowhere with this. If you can't do anything about it yourself then get someone in to deal. Simples

Now now gents, play nice.

How much do you have to spend on this repair?

You can get a nice burner all in for about £100 (Map Gas). You need to get some heat in there to break the seal of rust in the threads, once the bolt is glowing you will be able to wind it out. I would not apply any heat to the chassis rail, only the stud sticking out. Make sure you have plenty of water near by should the worst happen!

I dont get why this has taken 6 pages :? buy a Dormer drill bit (£10) and a tap (£5), drill the fooker out and re tap the threads!!!! costs=£15, time taken=10 mins.

HE has more chance messing up with a drill than with heat. I would not like to drill hardened bolts with domestic drill, no matter how good the drill bit is, its very hard to drill straight down the centre of the bolt.

I have done a few this way, with the right drill bit its easy :D To get the heat to where is is needed (the captive nut) you would have to cut a hole in the floor. Heating the stump wont help IMO.

I'd disagree with this. In my experience, the red-hot heat of MIG weld will soak its way in and make almost any stuck bolt come out.

No, I agree welding a nut on would be my preferred method. But the op has no access to a welder, hence my suggestion. heating the stump with oxy will just make it tighter, IMO that is.

Ive never had a broken CAB bolt, but i have had many other non accessible studs on which heat has worked wonders.

Drilling a bolt out is last resort IMO. Even the skilled mechanics ive seen, cannot drill the remains of a bolt without damaging the threads one way or another.

If you were closer i would have driven over and removed the broken bolt for you, its not a major issue, just do the wise thing and do what people have said!

Save some money in the long run. :D

i always go with the drill tbh, i norm drill into the stud slightly off the middle. once through, go next size up etc etc until your very close to the thread. never been unlucky with em. if i had a welder i would however weld a nut to it and try that first, but i wouldnt go out and buy a welder just for that 1 bolt.
