Plenty of us on here have done this, and can advise you.
There is a cheap and simple way of converting the engine which will in theory loose you a small amount of power, assuming your petrol system is giving you full power at the moment. If your 100,000 mile+? petrol system is past its best, you may actually gain power. Either way, the amount of power lost or gained isn't really noticeable.
Alternatively, you can fit a more complex LPG system, using individual vapour injectors, which shouldn't loose you any power at all.
I converted the red touring in my sig. to LPG in 2000, IIRC, and have covered around 100,000 miles with it since.

With careful/lucky ebaying, plus a few new parts, it can be done for around £300. That's for a 'Leonardo' controlled mixer system.
It's all fairly simple DIY stuff, and can be done in several sessions, each of which doesn't take the car off of the road for more than a few hours.
For example, you could fit the tank and filler one day, the hardware under the bonnet the next, then all the pipework, and then the electrics.

Well worth doing if you live near a station with LPG, expect to save 40% of your fuel bills.

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?
