Just did some bored calculations on the ol' calculator with some figures I used from the last fill up on the e30.

So it costs £1.429 for a litre of petrol . :cry:

I put £20 in, which is about 13 litres.

and it lasted about 85 miles if that.

which all punches out a figure of around 27.61 MPG with nice slow civilized driving. :eek:

I know its not much of a comparison but I had a 2006 1.2 Ford fiesta and ragging that to hell got around 35 MPG.

Not going to sell the BMW, but come on its a 318i! If mine is like that, you 325 owners must be bankrupt. :mad:

Oh and before you say your car was last serviced in 1993 and your running with the tyres as flat as pancakes. I serviced it about 3 weeks ago and checked the tyres at 30psi. 8)

but on a run its rely not that bad im sure the last time i worked out the mpg it was around 27 with both motorway and town driving.

but trying to compare an e30 to a ford rattler is just not gonna happen..
a 1.2 fiesta @ 35 mpg vs E30 @ 15mpg at worst, i know what id rather :bmw:

Whats your blue temp sensor like? Heard bad/old ones can cause them to drink a bit more.

My touring with iS engine (m42) used to do around 24mpg around town, 30+ on long journeys.

For a 1.8 engine developed in the 80's in a fairly heavy shell late 20's MPG isnt bad.

A 325i will do similar mpg if you drive it for economy because it doesnt have to work anywhere near as hard.

Even the supposedly fantastcially economical VW Mk2 Golf 8v GTi engine will only do early-mid 30's if you drive it sensibly - and thats with a much lighter shell.

Yeah and I don't think it really helps I live in some of the hilliest parts with some fast, high rpm, demanding roads.

Haha yeah I wouldn't care if my BMW was running 15 MPG I would never go back. :teehee:
Just curious why I am seeing the Garage salesman's face more! often. :mad:

Yeah it just all comes down to the health of the engine and the type of driving/conditions. I think I'll check all the sensors and injectors.

Its because I live on the Isle of Man. Some crap about shipping charges but I bet its all tax.
The Manx Government are robbing so and so's. (I can go on and on) :roll:

Well I think I would miss doing 100+mph overtaking a police car on the mountain road and laughing as they can do bugger all. 8)

10.1L = 2.24 gallons
100km = 62mi
62/2.24 = 27.7 mpg.

Not a bad guess!

Lets say you drive 10,000 miles a year. 35mpg means you need 286 gallons, 27mpg means you need 370 gallons.

84 gallons difference, at 1.43 a litre, is 536 quid a year, or just over ten quid a week.

Would you pay ten quid a week to drive an E30 instead of a Fiesta?

Ooooh yes. Whole reason why I got rid of the fiesta. Driving one of them made me feel like a sheep and a bit of a :wan:

So a tenner a week, I would gladly. :wink:

Might have been a little modest with my math capabilities, but still from a 325 im really pleased with it.

I'm mostly pretty carefull (i usually have a baby in the car with me) but i do put my foot down now and again. Living in the coteswolds i drive up alot of hills and i work in the middle of town and use this as my daily, so i also spend a fair amount of time in traffic.

Could it be the 325 is more economical than a 318?

£25 = 80 miles for me around town, but it does get plenty of wide open throttle action so I've only myself to blame

I was surprised at how much my MPG improved when on the zone roam two years ago. I think it has something to do with long drives, little traffic and open roads. Short, stop start journeys in traffic do these cars no favours.

tbh thats still shocking. ive seen XE'd nova's/corsa's do 35-40mpg on a careful run but never drop that low being beaten.
