hi guys, i changed my wheels today as the title suggests....

i did have 17' alpina reps,
Image

but i swapped them for these.........
Image
Image
Image

after seing the car sat on alpina reps for a year it looks alien with the bbs's!

now i know ive done the right thing, handling wise and originality wise ect ect but im a little undecided right now.
these have been professionally shot blasted and refurbed and they were a ''straight swap for my alpina reps''

ignore the colour as in spraying the inside of the spokes in gloss black and polishing the faces... also i will need to source caps for them to.

i welcome comments boys, help me out here please lol

thanks 8)

Imo it would look better if the BBS's were silver.

simon- i hear you mate.... only reason the reps ended up black was because the car came with them on and i wanted to try improve them for the temporary basis they were on there..... im feeling polished tbh.

rob- no caps but i still thought they were worth a straight swap for reps that needed a tyre! :D

they do need caps though 8)

i like the bbs better mate ftw. black is a lot more popular than it was as an option for wheel colour, but thats your decicion to make. im torn on painting my wheels black atm but as the car is black im stuck as to whether the colour break up from black on silver would outdo a full murder job. choices choices lol. theyre staying silver till next year anyway.

Only the centre "nut" shaped part. The actual disc with "weave" on it is alloy.

If the black BBS have diamond cut faces they would look ok, like Ronal, Rial and Borbet B's.

i hope you didnt do a straight swap for them? i prefer the 17s but i bet u gettin such a comfy ride now, me id say the reps but overall comfortability the bbs would i be wrong in thinkin that lighter wheels mean slighter faster car yh, so now ur m52 has that less weight to pull!

i always prefered black rims....but that was 6 years ago before everyone and his dog was doing it, now theyre so common theyre boring. a polished lip was also needed to break up the blackness.

bss- they are genuine bbs but not to sure on the diamond cut bit, will have to check tomoro in the light

ali- yes mate i did straight swap them for the reps, but even with no caps i thought this was well worth it! refurbed bbs's go for 350-400 quid and reps barely scrape 200 so gotta be a bargin no??..............

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

I can see from your pics that they are not diamond cut.

These Borbet B's are painted black then the faces diamond cut to give a polished look.

i wouldnt fancy slimming the front of the spokes flat on a wheel not designed to be like that :? plus the mesh part of the caps is only thin, i don't think you'd be able to square it off enough to match the rest of the wheel without cutting through it.

black seems to visually shrink a wheel, so it looked ok on the reps as theyre a large wheel which in silver look too big for the car, but a 15in bbs is already 'small' so painting it dark hides it and makes it look tiny.

i'd just do them a nice silver and enjoy having a timeless classic wheel which is going to hold it's value and make the car drive how it should.
cheers,

harry

+1 - I've had both on the chromie... The alipna Reps only made their way onto her as I needed to replace tyres for the bbs... Looked wrong and felt wrong... BBS all the way...

And in silver too. Although if your not into the standard look like most, why not do a darker silver on the spoked sections? A Friend of mine has done his with a off gold colour with a polished lip on his chromie and they look spot on, the gold isnt bling and you can only just tell when you stare.

You would hardly "slim" the spokes to diamond cut them, just a couple of thou should suffice i would have thought.

Same for the caps.

ive had bks, 16 alpinas genuine, and now 15 inch bbs,

the only difference i really noticed was the bbs with the thicker tyres where a bit softer,

handling wise its more or less the same around the bends etc,

though i prefer the looks of a decent set of bbs, a scraggy set of bbs look awful,

and im not a fan of black much prefer the silver, but definatley a better choice

bbs is the only way to go in my opinion. paint them whatever colour you like. you can always have them professionally refurbished to the orignal colour when you want to have the factory look :)

i used to go for big wheels but nowadays (especially on an e30) theyre a bit out of date. im all for smaller wheels, lower drop and extra wiiiiiidth! :D

17s (even alpinas) just dont look right on an e30 imo :?
