Check ALL the doors. There's a pillar switch which grounds to the bodywork through the holding screw; if moisture gets in there, it rusts and breaks the connection, so if the windows work when the passenger door is open but not the drivers, then that's where the issue lies.
If it's more general, check the fuse. If it's blown, go back and check the switches to make sure they're not shorting. As a last resort, look for a blue relay among the under-dash wiring.

That was quick!
Thanks for the replies guys, will try the above, as they don't work irrespective of which door is open, fuse though is ok, first thing I checked.
When I open the drivers door (left) I can hear something clicking in the vicinity of the bonnet release lever, I take it that is approx where the blue relay is. Probably irrelevant to this but the interior light works correctly when I open any door.

IF they work with the ignition on, and IF you can hear the relay click when you open a door, then a duff relay is the problem. The power feed that makes the windows work with a door open is the same one that makes the relay click, so the feed must be present right up to the relay pin. All the rest of the wiring is common to working with the ignition on, so that just leaves the relay.
Are you sure you're describing the symptoms accurately?

Do the windows work with the ignition on and the doors open?

How about with fuse 17 removed?

In that case the relay isn't switching. Maybe the 'click' you hear isn't the relay switching at all, and is just the result of a couple of volts appearing at its coil - enough to make a noise, but not to switch it.
Unscrew one of the door pin switches and pull it out. As you pull it through the hole, push the metal of the brown/blue against bare metal and see if the window switches light up.
If it does, disconnect the wires from the switch, making sure they don't disappear back through the hole, and clean up the contact surfaces of the switch. The contact for the windows leads a much harder life than the one for the lights (inductive load v. resistive load), so it's not a bad idea to swap the wires over when you refit.
Quite often you will find that a small sliver of black plastic has formed between the contact surfaces, which needs to be trimmed away with a craft knife.
Repeat on the other side of the car.

I would check for current at the window motor, most likely place for a fault will be the A pillar connector.TPS wrote:Off topic slightly, my rear Drivers side Electric window, has stopped working, the switches are lit up, but nothing happens when pressed, any ideas?

Swap the switches over first. Because of the way and place they are positioned, these switches collect a lot of crud inside.
Just had this problem after changing the Centre Console(s), turned out to be the Cig.Lighter, everytime you went to use the lighter, fuse 28 would blow, the Window/Sunroof switch wouldn't then light up.agd931 wrote:The "feature" where the electric windows are live when a door is opened with the ignition off, has stopped working.
Any pointers as to where I should start probing..
Thanks

I have issue where my rear electric windows buttons don't light up and in addition neither rear window works when the rear door electric window buttons are pressed, however, one rear window works when the rear door electric window button in the centre console is pressed.
I have swapped the all buttons but still the rear windows do not work or light up with the exception that one of the rear windows will go up and down from the centre console. The rear windows do not work when the rear/front doors are open either.
Any idea where I would need to look first?

Both the centre console switch and the one in the door card has to be in full working order for a rear widow to work. 'Borrow' the front window ones to test.
The rear windows should be operative any time the fronts are. If this isn't so, there's something very strange happening. Are the rear windows factory fit?

Yes the rear windows are factory fit as the car is the se model. Yet i can only operate the rear window from the centre console not from the switches in the door cards. Ive tested and swapped the switches over bu still he same issue.

That suggests that the safety switch on the console isn't working, or possibly not even plugged in.
