Having spent some time fiddling with my 320i trying to get the thing running right through the ranges and locate the problem causing a low speed stutter/jerk that I'm sure lots have experienced here is how I solved them. I wanted to get this engine running sweet as it could before putting in the 2.7 conversion making sure I had a back up and also something worth selling if I wanted to.
Not expensive, just leveraged the knowledge of the other chaps on here.
1) AFM - Cleaned, lubricated and taken the cover off, inspected the track and worm spring. The worm spring was causing a little issue. Not quite binding but a little too much tension due to dirt under its travel. Cleaned with contact cleaner and compressed air which freed it up.
2) Inlet manifold & Throttle Body - New gaskets, seals, nuts and a deep clean of the TB, reset the TPS.
3) Injectors - Serviced by injectortune. I think this was perhaps one of the most expensive but worth while pieces.
4) Crankcase vent pipe, oil filler cap and check, remove and clean all connections.
5) Valve Clearances & Rocker Cover gasket.
6) Replaced all connections in the C191 under the intlet manifold with the proper BMW items.
Having done all this, connecting the battery, idle for 10mins/up to operating temp then driven the car around for 20mins I can honestly say the difference is amazing. Smooth as apart from a bit of clutch judder which is soon to be sorted.
I'd even contemplated not swapping in the 2.7 I'm building..... after a slap round the face.... I woke up
