got absolutley shafted today, what should i do
Moderator: martauto
if anyone has read my thread on top mount nut removal this is a follow on to that
i went to a garage on friday, got the top mount rattle gunned off and a new one fitted, when i got home the new top mount did not fit, so ecp offered to change it for me, the mount for the other side fitted fine so i decided to get it on then go change the bad one,
i went to the garage today to get it removed and fitted again, the guy after 20 mins told me he couldnt do it and said "f*** away off" i said to him it was clear that he had destroyed the threads on the shock and it was completley rung, so he needs to sort it,
he began to swear at me told me to come in on monday and speak to eddie who was apparantly the manager,
ok fair enough i though, though i was absolutley riipping at him swearing
i went to a motor factors down the road to get a quote for a bilstein shock to give them on monday, the motor factors told me that the guy i had spoke to today was in fact the OWNER of the company,
i was furious but the garage closed at 12 so noone was there,
what should i do? im off on tues wed and thurs, but im not sure how to approach it, he dosen t seem interested in doing anything about it..

The company that breaks it is usually the one that will have to carry out the work to repair it, so in going to another garage and getting an invoice off them for the ones that broke it to pay, probably won't work.

Was thinking more of evidence, should the need ever arrive, thatGreen wrote:The company that breaks it is usually the one that will have to carry out the work to repair it, so in going to another garage and getting an invoice off them for the ones that broke it to pay, probably won't work.
they actually carried out the work.
Would take it back to the Garage at the first opportunity you get, both of you will have had a chance to think and calm down
a bit too, then see what happens.
Try and stay calm, outwardly at least. Good luck.

WHAT???????? Small claims there if ever I heard of it!Green wrote:I took my car for an mot the other month and they drove it too fast over the break tester, broke my sump then charged me for it.
Not getting that back it seems because it's still on going...

It's going to be difficult to prove the garage has screwed up your car. For a tenner, cash-in-hand the owner is unlikely to be willing to spend time and money rectifying his mistake.
You could try appealing to his better nature but it doesn't sound like he has one.

well, the guy that fitted the top mount wasnt there today, im going in on tuesday to speak to him and get a reciept, once i have that il drop the bombshell of what happened at the weekend,
i will go in perfectly calm but i need my car back on the road, and tbh i dont want them anywhere near it again
if he says no, feels like theres nothing i can do though and thats what sickens me

I have to be honest here, if you ask a garage to do you a favour for a tenner, I don't know how much comeback you're gonna get. Not saying they are not responsible, just that I don't think they are going to want anything to do with it.
I hope I am proven wrong!

Very very sad indeed, sometimes it isn't about the money, for me it's about the customer leaving happy ,
the job is quite simple and easily done DIY, if the chap can't carry this out then he's not fit to be working and trading as a Mechanic ?

Where'd this happen? just so I know who to avoid.
If he fucked it up common decency dictates he take some time out of his day to fix it?
And If he is uncooperative. Old remedy. Write letter of complaint, attach invoice to letter.

I want to know why they felt it was necessary to use the gun on it? I have removed and refitted eveything on an e30 and have no access to a rattle gun.....why use it in the first place?

To state the obvious, because a rattle gun is about fifty times quicker than sockets and spanners. Important when quotes are based on hourly rates. Quote two hours for a job (car manufacturers supply a table with recommended times), use sockets and spanners and it will take an awful lot longer than you have quoted for. I've done most things under an E30 with trolley jacks and axle stands, doesn't mean I would choose them over a 2 post ramp if I was doing it for a living.

If it was me, I would go in, give him the offer of replacing the shock at his expense etc. If he says no, just say you will be contacting trading standings and informing the local newspaper of the proceedings. Watch him drop a brick then.

Just go back down with your biggest mate, and have him explain that it's his car. Always works for me (I'm not a big fella, and no matter how handy I might be, if my freakishly large mate is with me, all problems seem to sort themselves out).
