Im thinking a trade policy may be cheaper for me and the mrs. as joint we pay over 2k for individual policies.
Who shall I try?
What shall I say my business is? Ie, Car dismantler?
and what are the catches?
Cheers

Roadrunnner or Tradex
Snag with trade policy is if you need to claim for a write off, you'll only get trade value for the car.
I've never investigated the legalities of whether they stiff you for saying you are a trader working from home selling cars for example, but in reality you're not.

Dna or tradewise are both good, dna will accept some mods on your own motor too!
If you don't have a proper premises i wouldn't say you dismantle as it will be dearer.
It really suits me to have it as i go through a fair few cars!
The cons are pay out is trade rates and subject to you proving you are a trader of some sort. I have an unrelated full time job, so might buy and sell 4-8 per year. They said that is good enough but to keep a log/ recipts in case i claim.
The pros are drive any thing you want within the indemnity limit (max value stipulated by you, the higher you have the dearer the premiums) even if there not insured within their own right!
No need to keep swapping over and paying each time, just update the mib data base within a week or two!

you will need records/proof of vehicles bought and sold if you claim, dvla class that as having over 15 cars in a year. i have a trade policy, saying part time private trader, but i do have more shift more than 15 cars a year.
That must be Full time, I specificity told various insurances company over the 3-4 years I have had it that I do 5 a year give or take (as its part time/hobby). They always said that's fine and qualifies me to take out traders insurance legitimately.

I've never been asked how many cars I sell or have just percentages in categories and value limits required.

I'm with Pitstop Insurance. I told them that the main reason I needed trade insurance was for loading vehicles I've bought onto my trailer on public roads, and for moving vehicles between my storage shed and workshop, which are about 30 yards apart and on opposite sides of a public road. No mention of selling vehicles at all.
