Last friday (18th of march) some one in a foucus Cmax decided to drive into the side of me in me pride and joy.

Shes a 316i on a h reg (1990) with a mtech 2/1 kit (sorting it out for mtec2 all the way through befour accident) and on 15"bbs on 109,000 ish milages with a really clean body, i spent a year looking for her and had to tavel from kent to liverpool to get her, like i say she is my pride and joy and was nearly ready to have her preped to show her this year.
The damage done is purly cosmetic to the N/S rear quarer and door and a lil to the bumper
Today i found out they have written her off and im so gutted, what id like to know is if there is someone on here that i could ask to come down and give me a second assesment? im down in kent and would pay for fuel and what not.
ill hopefully find out what they want to offer me for the car and i know im gonna get shafted, to me the car is near impossible to replace.so i wanna try anything i can to make its viable to get her back on the road
any help much appriciated

Many moons ago I had an old mini. Someone pulled out on me and ended writing it off.
After arguing with the insurance on pay out. I managed to get paid out a good amount of money and keep the car. Got it repaired and was quids up at the end of it! Only down side was the car was registered as written off.

I'm guessing after the insurance assement you've got the car back?

Most insurance companies offer you a chance to buy back the salvage, as long as it's just a Category C or D write-off.

Try phoning them and asking about this.

I know in my scenario. Because the car wasn't worth more than a £1000. I didn't have to buy it back off the insurance company. Not sure how that works or if it's a f*ck up my previous insurance company did. Not that I was bothered :D

bud I'm more than happy to come over and have a good look. Forget any renumeration, a cuppa would be great though. I'll pick up a couple of cakes from the bakers to sweetern the prognosis. Just let me know when is good for you :thumb:

A cat C write off is when the repair costs exceed 60% of the pre accident value.
If a car needs paint, then this is always likely to be exceeded in the case of any 'ordinary' E30 that isn't on an insurance policy with an agreed value for the car.
I've bought several written off E30s and you wouldn't believe how minimal the damage is in some cases.

Is it possible for you to post some pics of the damage?

Unfortunately I live in Australia but I am a trade panel beater, if you post the pics I can give you an idea on what your in for repair wise. I can tell you what needs replacing and what needs repair, more importantly what's involved in the repair.

I suggest you take up GWB's offer of cakes and tea as he is very gluey on the spare parts side of things.

Best of luck
Mike

sorry for only just getting back chaz txt me ya number and I'll call you when I arrise.
I'm off to sidcup tomorrow to drop a car off but I can do that anytime so let me know when you are about and I'll get it all lined up, well at least my running about, your pannels will take a little longer.
ps I'll bring the cake but you'll have to stump up the brews as I don't think even all my extension leads would make it one junction round the 25

that won't cost much looking at the pics, nothing structural at all.

Looks easily reparable, just a lot of time and effort.

Dolly, bodywork hammer, screw in dent puller (or one of the weld on types are brilliant), also a heat gun helps, clean the paint off, heat the pannel, make is more plyable and easier to adjust for the smaller finer parts.

I smashed up the front of an old car, got £1500, bought the car back off the insurance company, total front end re-build inc painting was about £780.00 quids in.

you should end up with even more in your pocket with some help from people on here.

A tricky repair, but a decent bodyshop should be able to straighten, fill and paint it for 500 quid. Was it a comprehensive or TPF&T policy? If you had a classic policy (and I don't understand anyone that doesn't), that would have been £2000 agreed value, a like for like courtesy car (that neans a new 3 Series) and in the inevitable result of a write off, the option of salvage retention. This is now about 20% of the agreed value so on a £2000 car, @£400.

It could go two ways. The insurance company may insist on taking the car and giving you a few quid for it as a payout. the alternative is to to withdraw the claim and pay for the repair yourself. Or they may just pay out and tell you to keep the car.
My neigbour ploughed into my car when parked, a 1994 Carina E Estate. They wrote his car off (wing, bonnet, bumper, headlight) but after 3 weeks, hadn't collected it it. He rang them up to see why and they just asked him to dispose of it himself. So he gave it to me. :D
