i would almost guarantee they were on nankangs or something like them which would explain the inability to go round a corner. my e34 had them on and it was funny for a while,i spent most of the time doing improptu drifts instead of cornering at the first sniff of rain.i sold them to a lad at work and i fitted kumhos which are pretty good.he thought he had a bargain till he tried a quick u turn in front of traffic. he crapped himself ,he only had a 518 and it snaked all over the place. :!:

TG has got a bit tired and predictable imo. Was cool to see a few e30's on their track but it was all a bit pointless. A road trip would have been much more entertaining. Anyone spotted an ''as seen on top gear'' ad yet?

I thought it was a 1.48 laptime... not 1.40. May was 1.55, so was hampster.

Still at least those wallowely cabs can nearly match a caged Kia Cee'd.

OK, so who's going to write in and demand more from them ?
If you do it could go either way, a great 20min's of them blowing smoke up the exhaust of the E30.
Or a demolition derby and some nicely folded up rusty as fook shells.
There is NO nucleus.

Thats because he had a shitty cliford! If anything, they drove home (excuse the pun) the point that clifords are pointless annoying problematic alarms!
Only if they are installed by people with no ability. Clffords own installation course is by all accounts fairly easy to pass. What you want is the decent Electrician that can improve upon the system by installing it better than required. To use an example. The thing comes with Scothlocks. What sparky worth their salt would use those?

In the theift test, surely if the doors where dead lock they could not have opened the door with the wire?

I whole heartedly agree! The installation of cliffords and nearly all aftermarket alarms is 99% is f*cking shocking but i have also had the miss fortune of having a few cliffords bodged into my previous chariots and a couple of them have suffered from component failure. I don't rate them at all!

They make f*cking annoying over the top noises too!

I remove any trace of alarms from all of my cars and correct the wiring whilst I am there, I think any Alarm fitter armed with scotchblocks, should be mutilated and or beaten with an E30 propshaft....

quick swift blows to the head would quickly sort him out :D

I believe Barry had to remove one of these offending clifford /Moss/lazerline alarms from one of Pacerpete's prized tourers a while back ? it caused quite a disturbance in his back passage...

Topblag wrote:Sorry to push this in another direction but there were three good things came out of last night's E30 section on TG:

1) They all chose the same car, which is the only RWD 4 seater convertible you can get for 2k by my calculations
2) It demonstrated that 17" wheels and excessively lowered suspension on a cab ruins the handling
3) The car's didn't get trashed like most other budget car specials they've done.
Well said. That was my take on it, too. Clarkson has said elsewhere that he has a real fondness for the 6 cylinder 3 series of the 1980s:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/drivin ... 103294.ece

I was not surprised that they all choose the same car. It speaks volumes about them in a very positive way.

The issue of "wikid big rimz, my low-ridin' bruv, innit" was self-explanatory. No surprises there.

Nearly every "series of tests" malarkey that the Top Gear team do ends up with them slating the cars, having them destroyed, or generally seeing the cars as write-offs. Or with a piano on top of them. :) That didn't occur here.

Again. Well said. It's all done with the intent of a bit of a laugh ~ whether it achieves that or not is another matter...it doesn't change what the intent of the exercise is.

Agree, who cares what these fools think of e30's, They didn't exactly slate them like they have done with other cars. Was good to see them on the track, looked awesome. Funny how Clarkson's cars always break down then suddenly fixed.....

Only thing that annoyed me about the show was the 4-5 minute chat about F****** magpies!! :-x.

I just watched it on IPlayer.

Basicly they're having a go at old turds who've passed through the hands of idiots.
The worse commentary about an E30 is the paving slab in the back, which I must admit does seem like a lame one from BMW. Couldn't they have found a better solution at the time?

EDIT: I'm assuming the slab in the back is the factory standard concrete weight, but as I've never owned a cab I don't know.

JC in a 20 year old auto banger only 13 secs behind Stig in a new one! Enough said.

Well whatever, I've heard mention about concrete in the back of cabs before.

It's in the boot alright, but it's not a paving slab

When I bought my first E30, I was 'advised' to keep a railway sleeper in the boot

Of course it was scripted. It changes nothing. The same cars were chosen nonetheless. They could all have rolled up in Audis or Saabs ~ heaven forfend! ~ or any such thing but they didn't.

I actually got a comment because of the show lol. Was going through the mcdonald drive through this morning getting my breakfast, and the old guy behind the counter after looking my cab up and down said he always liked one, but after seeing that epsiode of Top Gear has given him more of an urge to go out and buy one.

That's just great, Top Gear has attracted McDonalds drive through attendants to E30s. :(

That really hurts. When I did the clutch on the M. I only disconnected it at the front and hung it down out of the way. At some point, I bent down to pick something up and stood up too fast. Got me properly hard. Drew blood and all sorts. Proper starts in the eyes moment. Everyone else had gone home. So I had a brief swearing session, the sat for a bit, then carried on
