Anyone referring to their 130 bhp car as "fast" needs to be bitch slapped.

That's the whole point - it's not that fast it's just near enough as fast as a 325i point-to-point.

barry - your logic does not work. You say iS owners give it the biggun and we say 325i owners need to be taken down a peg.

Like the 325i is fast lol. Half of them have tractor autos and the other are shagged beyond belief or in the wrong shell (Gaybriolet, 4-Door etc).

Jhonno - such rubbish on the MPG FFS...

There is a huge 33.3% more power in the M20, that's not "near enough" by any measure. Would you say that a 95hp car is near enough as fast as an iS? Exactly.

Factory speeds aside - the best stock bottom M20 I've ever seen makes 475whp, the best stock bottom M42 I've ever seen makes 285whp, they're not comparable.

Has anybody ever ridiculed an iS by taking it down the 1/4 mile?

^ Over all the best handling and power to weight, it's got to be the IS surely?

16.5 I think for the IS, Alex's car was running good

Jimmy's car gets the thrashing of it's life everyday, that M20 has never been opened 175k and has seen more ring action than Elton John! :D

both cars are stock/factory so proof is there, a tired 26 year old 325i can dust a good running 318IS by at least 2 seconds ! :D

Let's face it. In 1990, nobody, but nobody, ever said,
"The handling and balance of the 318iS is so superior, I'll forego a few extra bhp, that noise and a few ft/lbs, some mph, and a couple of seconds along with the cachet of buying at the top of the range for the sake of a couple of mpg and a cheaper insurance bill." All original 318iS owners, without exception, really wanted a 325.

Then, as now, you bought a 318iS because for whatever reason you couldn't afford to buy or probably more likely, run, a 325i.

The flagship was the 325i. If not, they'd have discontinued the 325i on the introduction of the 318iS. BMW effectively decreed it so in 1990. It is the inferior model. Live with it.

I heard the dealers had to spec them up with alloys and other trinkets at their own expense just to punt them out the door :)

that is a fact,
no doubt BMW spent a fortune on research before discontinuing the 4 pot shitter after miserable sales figures, :P

there's nothing like a 6 pot howl, even when driven carefully, it always gives me a grin :D

that never ever happens in a 4 cylinder turd....
