Bite their arms off, that's what I'd expect to pay for a normal windscreen. the heated ones are normally £200+addictedtoe30 wrote:A bit late in the season for this one maybe but FYI

Fair enough
I would also be shocked if they can fit a heated screen. it would require a load of wiring, relays and swiches to be fitted all of which mr windscreen fitter will have NO clue how to do.addictedtoe30 wrote: Why is it so supprising that they supply these.

They only fit the screen.
I never said they do the wiring, you need to sort that yourself. Its not a major issue.

Hmm heated screens are custom made to order or in small batches and not something a normal retailer would carry so it probably an admin cockup

An M3 screen will fit a normal E30, you will need the encapsulation for the outside, the dash trim and the windscreen pillar trims, can be done though, I'm looking at doing this on the moredoor, dry glazing is old hat and another potential rust trap for our decaying cars, bonded screens are a far better option, not DIY friendly though. I think from memory a genuine M3 screen is the same price as a normal one, the only potentially pricey bits are for the interior.
Le Mans Classic 2006there have been a few screens made

The one option I miss from the past is the heated screens from my Scorpio, XR2's and the Sierras. They were a fantastic option and surprising that it didn't catch on more.

+1, they were excellent.B7 wrote:The one option I miss from the past is the heated screens from my Scorpio, XR2's and the Sierras. They were a fantastic option and surprising that it didn't catch on more.
Iirc Ford owned the rights to them, which prevented other manufacturers from using them
This is correct - But hopefully this will eventually become a industry requirement on safety grounds (like ABS which Mercedes Benz intially created) and then all mfgs can have this heated front screen as std equipment....ROC wrote:+1, they were excellent.B7 wrote:The one option I miss from the past is the heated screens from my Scorpio, XR2's and the Sierras. Heated screens were available on all Ford motor company owned products, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo and i think Mazda.robsy wrote:This is correct - But hopefully this will eventually become a industry requirement on safety grounds (like ABS which Mercedes Benz intially created) and then all mfgs can have this heated front screen as std equipment....ROC wrote:+1, they were excellent.B7 wrote:The one option I miss from the past is the heated screens from my Scorpio, XR2's and the Sierras. Heated screens are also an option on BMW minis.
All the trim parts are NLA as far as i know.powelly wrote:An M3 screen will fit a normal E30, you will need the encapsulation for the outside, the dash trim and the windscreen pillar trims, can be done though, I'm looking at doing this on the moredoor, dry glazing is old hat and another potential rust trap for our decaying cars, bonded screens are a far better option, not DIY friendly though. E30 M3's suffer from scuttle, A pilar and bulkhead rot worse than E30's.
This is down to incorrect installation of the bonding sealant as it blocks the two drain holes in the top of the scuttle where the screen sits.

I think the copyrights that Ford had exclusively owned, may have since expired and you now see from time to time on other makes of cars nowadays.....
