Got my renewal through for the insurance yesterday, & it was £614.00 for the iS!!! Aged 41, driving 22 Years, Full NCD (15+ Years), 1 SP30 & 1 Non Fault Accident. My last car was an E36 M3 & that was CHEAPER last year!!!!!
I've shopped around, & most companies want a Thatcham 1 Alarm fitted, which may bring the premium down. Can anyone recommend a decent Cat 1 Alarm for an E30? I don't want one with all the bells & whistles, just a Cat 1 with Remote Locking will do.
Cheers
TIA

I'm thinking of getting something descent fitted to mine too. Can everyone state how much they paid for their alarm too coz i need to work out if its worth doing. I did some research and my insurance quote will be reduced by around £100 by having a thatcham 1 fitted so thats obviously quite a long pay back period.

What places are you finding will actually reduce the premium for having a cat 1 fitted? I'm disguisted at the prices this year, my quotes have gone up approx 80% nothings changed apart from having another year no claims :x

My car's fitted with a Sigma S30 cat 1 system and for the money is quite a impressive system.

My 325 insurance is through Carole Nash & I pay about £180 with a 6k mile limit.

My age is in my favour but against there's no alarm as such fitted & I live on Tyneside. None standard wheels declared too.

Don't think I can reduce the insurance costs but would be interested in getting a reasonably priced alarm.

Make sure your insurance company will reduce your premium with an alarm before you go out and fit it. I fitted a toad ai606 to my 318iS i had and the insurance company wouldnt lower my premium because they "hadn't asked me to fit one" :?

Just from looking at comparethemarket doing an online quote it goes down by £100 by selecting thatcham 1 from none at all.

how much was that fitted?

Mines a cabby by the way which i think are a bit more expensive to insure. I currently have it as classic car insurance but i'm not getting any no claims bonus so want to go back to conventional insurance. Its going to be twice the price so need to get it down some how!!

I only pay £128 a year full comp on my Alpina. That's 6000 miles a year , comuting to uni. Got a scorpian alarm and imobiliser.

Try Lancaster insurance and tell them you are part of a car club ( ie e30zone ) and you should get a good deal.

dan are you sure that the policy you have allows commuting?

looking at the price and that its through Lancaster, i'm assuming its probably a classic policy which is normally limited Social/Domestic/Pleasure but NO commuting to and from work/place of study

Yeah it's part of the policey I had to change when I became a student 2 years ago. Orginally it when up by over £100 but this year when I renewed it , it when down again. It's run on a classic policy so I don't get any NCB against it , which is the drawback. But like you said on another thread recently , plenty of people just use a classic policy to run the cars on the cheap and infact they are not covered. I only use the car twice a week normally so with me doing such few miles the policy works for me.

Partly because we have such high levels of whiplash fraud - £2,000 million paid out each year and one claim for every 140 people in the country.

Maybe or maybe its because the insurers took big losses in the crash thats my favourite having thought about it.
