Meaning that by your logic, F1 teams should fit go-kart tyres and leave their rivals for dead.

OK, let's be a big more helpful.

Q. Why fit low profile tyres to cars?
A. Because they look good.

Q. Why do racing teams fit low profile tyres to race cars based on road cars (Touring cars etc)?
A. Because they are trying to fit big brakes under the wheels and their overall rolling radius is limited by the size of the arches.

Q. What would you fit if that wasn't the case?
A. There are probably other rules at work here but F1 teams have carbon/carbon brakes (of limited radius) and fit the smallest wheels that fit over the brakes and very HIGH profile tyres.

Q. What is the best option for me?
A. This is a complex question but for enthusiastic road driving on BBS you probably want 205/50/15 for the taughter feel or 205/55/15 for a bit more comfort. It also depends on the roads you drive. 55 profile make a noticeable difference for the better on country roads.

Q. Why such fat tyres?
A. Because the E30 suspension was designed for that size of tyre and the interaction between tyres and suspension is very important to comfort and handling.

Also, don't confuse "Stiff" with "Good Handling". They may or may not coincide. Some grippy, well balanced cars may well be stiff - but not necessarily.

If you get down to the nitty gritty, 1 has ACS coilovers the other Intrax and both have fully adjustable geometry also. If only we'd fitted smaller tyres.

The e30 is a fun car yes..

I wasn't actually taking the piss, after the initial pointing out that it looked silly, I was just interested in your logic, which you summed up with "Dick"..

Then you need to make your posting a lot clearer. A simple way to do it is to use @

like @pigman: your tyres are too small

or just use the quote button.

You can't expect Jhonno to understand that you're replying to a post way up the page.

@pigman. How old are you...12? It's not the playground you know. Not a great way to win friends and influence people.
Your ideas of more grip and better handling from lesser treaded/lower profile rubber are at best misguided and your offensive retorts unnesessary.

Dont think that less sidewall flex will give you more grip, just a small improvement in feel and response and we all feel these things differently.

It appears that the mickey is only being taken due to your exaggerated claims and stupid, personal insults.
BTW - My 318is will be quicker than yours due to me being behind the wheel. winkeye

195 65 14 is correct with 14" alloys some early cars were 195 60 14's

205 55 15 is correct but some drop it down to 50 profile

if on 16's 205 50 and you can use 225 45 on the back, as done by alpina. some will use 205 45 and 225 40's

215 40 for 17's 205 40 can be used as well

tuners like hartge would often fit even wider rear tyres depending on what engine was in the car.

HTH

dan, are you bored at work ? BTW, i've just posted your lid :D

i'm not the best one to comment on tyres as what i run on my cars isn't often correct but is done through necessity
