Personally, as you plan on keeping the original shell i'd say stick with the earlier management system if everything else is going to be OEM/as it was in 1984. You have quite an early car there and theres not many H23's left nevermind pre-facelift Hartge's in general so it would be quite a shame to get rid of a core feature their engine conversions were based around.

It's not a bad system and there's not much to go wrong with it, the only negative is the lack of 'chipping' possibilities but its all about the raw Hartge engine mods anyway winkeye Chipping is cheating :)

it's more of a reliability issue than a chip.. the very early systems are terrible I despise the cold start on these early turds and they have way too many vacuum pipes/valves and other crap !

this car wil get a lot of use when done and I think it will be more useable with 1.3 and nothing will be irreversable so it could always be "put back" ?

It might even be the same car that was also for sale in 2006 - again, I briefly contemplated buying it but the owning it but the owner said the LSD and dogleg box were AWOL.
it came from Dublin earlier this year it could very well be be the same car ?
I haven't checked the LSD yet and never thought about it having a dogleg box,
I have another H23 that will be a donor for the build :)
i have a dogleg box for sale if you're interested Mr. Topless winkeye

unsure about 1.3 now...this car is pre- C101 plug :(

I have removed the donk and the entire wiring loom today, the loom is in very poor condition mainly due to 25 years of dickhead alarm fitters armed with scotchblocks

if i was to go 1.3 Motronic I would have to update the whole cars electrics with a facelift Loom ! although this could have it's plus points for morsel add-ons ! :D

Ady, I recognise that leg, I'm sure it belongs to the same hound that ate my chicken drumstick in Oxford last year !

If it's any consolation my L-Jet in the E30 runs, starts and idles just as well as the Motronic that was in my E21 323i (1991 M20B25 fitted in the E21). I did spend a bit of cash replacing pretty much every vacuum line on the motor. At least you can still get them all.

I also have a dogleg box for a 323i complete with the propshaft which is unique to the 323i with dogleg box.

once again even fitting the later loom wouldnt be too much of a sin, the end of the day the only people that are going to notice a later loom are real spotters and the only ones that are going to mind are the polished diff cover concourse nit picky touch cock brigade.

fitting the 1.3 is hardly ruining the car in anyway, its not like your fitting a lambo door kit.

you could even leave most of the vac lines and kit in there to make it look like its still on the jetronic if your really worried about it.

Ha ha got to love the opportunist rare spare fraggers on this thread. :D

Steve IMO (which means little) I would change the loom, If you intend to use the car. If your just going to move it on, as usual then keep it original for bigger value. 8)

I'm all for subtle improvements that make an old car more usable, and at the end of the day it is you who has to live with it and fix it when it breaks,so removing a potential trouble spot must be worth considering.

And you can still polish the inside of the exhaust pipe,if that is what you want to do!

Proper job! :D
