where can i find the resistors on the inner wing?StuBeeDoo wrote:It sounds to me like what you are calling "dipped beam" is actually dim-dip and your "main beam" is normal dipped. Main beam is when you have all 4 headlights on.
HID ballasts don't like dim-dip, they only work properly with the full 12v input.
Disconnect your dim dip resistor(s) on the inner wing. It's not a problem, later cars don't have it anyway.

there not that bright mate and they pass m.o.t had the same ones in the mrs a3 went through no probs and the oem lighting is shi te.Jim320i wrote:I think the best port of call would to be remove them...Too bright and you'll get flagged up on your next mot.
Not a fan of them as they are just distracting to other drivers.

thanks for the advice but i havent got that issue of being able to see peoples head shape in front when im driving plus my car low aswell not too low but enough for the lights to be aiming lower than to cause problems for other driversJim320i wrote:Ahh, ok...But if you can see other drivers head shapes on the car/lorry in front of them when your sitting in traffic, then turn them down! I hate people when they have them that bright behind me in traffic.
Also, the difference with the a3 and the e30 will be light positioning, the a3 will be made for it where as the e30 are set to one height, I think, not 100% though. But get them checked over before you take them into an mot. There was a thread on here the other day about the mot's getting more strict on these kinda lights.

The MOT test requirements for headlamp alignment were tightened up considerably a few years ago, but the type of headlamp fitted to facelift E30s is eminently suitable for HID lights. The beam control and cut off is very sharp, and correctly aligned HIDs will cause no annoyance to oncoming traffic whatsoever.Jim320i wrote:Ahh, ok...But if you can see other drivers head shapes on the car/lorry in front of them when your sitting in traffic, then turn them down! thanks for this, so judging from that picture it is in the corners of the wings sitting behind the grills?paulie1969 wrote:http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... ht=dim+dipali50ferrari wrote:soo where can i find the resistor wires on the inner wings?

A far bigger problem is the newer rubbish on the roads that have yet to be subjected to an MOT test, and are driving around with headlamps randomly, generally pointing forwards.
After last years MOT test on my E34 (same headlamp design as E30) the tester actually commented afterwards on the quality and accuracy of the HID beam pattern.
