I bought my E30 not only because I love the looks, but I wanted a car to fiddle with and work on myself. I've had it a year now and want to give it a service. I've bought all the oil, air, fuel filters, big can of oil and spark plugs for a basic service. I've changed the air filter already, that was nice and easy. Plugs and oil I feel pretty confident about. Fuel filter less so. What is the best way not to get covered in petrol?

Any tips and other things I should replace while I'm at it?

For the fuel filter you have to start the car up first and remove fuse 11 with the engine running. After a few seconds the engine will stall. remove the fuel tank cap and then the fuel system will be out of pressure. get a catch pan because some fuel will spill out of the filter. remove the clamps and hoses from the old filter and get the new one in. This is how i did it without any problems. good luck
