Hi just wanted to ask whether an Audi RS6 engine will fit into an E30?

How much work are we looking at?

The engine is the 4.2L V8 version with around 444BHP.

Possible? winkeye winkeye

But in terms of physical size, will that 4.2L fit into an E30 engine bay?

What about the gearbox and so on?

As its possible to squeeze a 5.0 BMW V12 into the E30 engine bay it should be techincally possible to cram an Audi V8 donk into there.

Have you got one or are you hoping for a lottery win on Saturday ?

No my dad fills in the weekly lottery so fingers crossed his numbers come up!

I'm saving up so should be able to have enough money to buy an engine by spring, I'd say about £3k for an engine?

tbh mate i would say the same again... double it, times it by a large number then add some more.

for a job like that there are no instructions to follow, its going to be custom work with custom prices. :D

Out of interest what do these Audi v8's cost and where are they for sale? How many Audi v8's are rwd? Which gearbox, clutch and flywheel could be used? What diff ratio would be required. What width are they? Is the sump at the front or rear of the engine? Can the ecu be flashed so it's not looking for x amount of sensors etc that you won't be fitting, how much work is involved in making the loom work in an E30? What engine mounts would be compatible? Is the tunnel of an E30 big enough for the above gearbox? Is the exhaust manifold going to be easy to make and clear steering linkage?

Just a few questions off the top of my head you would need answering before you decide how much. I am not sure too many people would take it on for £1500

I would be loath to take it on for 15k if I wanted to make a profit and do a proper job.

Even a fecking 20v turbo is a bitch of a job to put into a MkII golf or similar VW compared to doing an S50 swap to an E30.

Putting in a RS6 engine into an E30 would be a nightmare and kinda little pointless too me thinks when you'd probably have more fun and would be alittle kinder on the purists by fitting an S62 from an E39 M5

Most likely. Don't think you are quite grasping the complexity of the project.

£1500 might cover the labour on an m5x swap.

I'd be hoping that would get you an S50 swap or else I'm moving to the UK to do them :P

Trying to insure the thing would be a fair old whack too.

Yes, I just going to ask how old the OP was because insurance on that sort of conversion would be pretty scary too.

In the end, it's nice to dream of big power E30s but you've got to ask yourself firstly if you can drive the thing without killing yourself and secondly if it's something that you'll want to live with because if not, you'll be selling it for a fraction of what you paid.

I have a lot of respect for someone who can get the most out of a 300bhp E30 let alone 400bhp + Don't forget that the engine will be the biggest part of the project but you'll still have to go through the rest of the car with the magic credit card spanner just to keep the thing on the ground. Suspension, brakes, cage, seats, diff mounting, maybe even drive shafts etc etc etc.

True, I've pretty much given up on the idea now, deciding to put something alot less beasty into it.

I'm 19 btw, just got my first E30, 318iS, and...unfortunately...insurance on that is...£6,500...cheapest qoute...3rd driver!!!

I'm paying £2,700 on a 1.4 peugeot 106 right now, and tbh, I've given up on insurance companies, they just don't seem to like my area, which I've just recently realised why, as my car got broken into a few days ago and the stereo stolen out of it! :( :(

*sigh* :(

I'm 19 and insurance isn't that bad! I drive a sport. The rs6 is a stupid idea without at least a 15k budget. Just go m50, there a good engine or m30 winkeye

I was 18 on a 316i for 2000 euro when I started off in my first car and on my own policy
Was paying about 2500 on a modded 318iS at 19 and thats about 500 euro now at 22.

To be honest, iS engine will be more than enough for you if your only 19 coming from a 1.4 puegeot.
