Scuttle shake - can it be reduced?

I never really understood what scuttle shake was until I drove the cab home after buying it on Saturday. I was quite alarmed at how much the screen shakes from side to side. Could also explain why the dash is split in several places across the top. With the hood down, it's even worse.
Would a strut brace help this? Any other ways to calm it down, or is it just life with a cab?

Thanks for the replies folks. The ride is a bit trashy at the moment i have to admit, so the bushes seem a good place to start. I can see the £££ rising on this car already!!

Convertibles never felt as rigid, even when they were brand new so don't expect to eliminate it altogether. I'd agree on the bushes and start with the big ones first - engine mounts, rear beam etc.
Do you still have your touring? I thought you had it up for sale a few years ago.

Bush renovation list below, prices will most likely be out of date:

I'd try and get it up in the air first and then see what actually needs replacing.
Oh and Alex, that was when i had 16"'s on

How is that cynical? I think most sane people on here would agree that you have never achieved 140mph in a 'chipped' 320i.....ImysE30 wrote:So cynical.....Ian_M wrote:

I'm going to give you an out here and say you meant 140km/h, right?

i can only just see 140 mph in an X6M down the main straight of our GP circuit before tuirn one looms close, and its almost 2 miles long, the X6M is only one of two cars i have ever seen that speed in, the other being a GT3. the 400hp Holdens only manage 130.
I would challenge any standard E30 to reach 140mph, in fact i would wager a large amount that ANY E30 could not reach 140mph without a 5 mile straight and a following wind
i would like to know how long and where this private road is, as i suspect many people will be interested such as top gear, and a million car magazines.

140 on a speedo is alot different to an actual 140 and i thought your B20 was easly up to 140ImysE30 wrote:I assume you mean standard E30's Mr Lee? I've driven a 2.5 and reached 140 easily![]()
I'm sure M30/M50/M52/S50 etc powered E30 can reach 140

A stardard 2.5 will really struggle to reach 140mph, any guru out there have the figures? 140 on the speedo, as Dezzy said, is not actually 140.
Also, convertible top speeds are lower so you'd have an ever tougher time getting to that point.

Depends on what engine you have in the bay.
Steve (E30Topless) will back this up, we both were travelling in excess of 140mph a few months back.

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!
CR24v??? Where's it all gone?? LOL
I'm no expert but a quick bit of research to look at standard 325 stats, the convertibles top speed is lower.Rav335uk wrote:Not true.Ian_M wrote: Also, convertible top speeds are lower so you'd have an ever tougher time getting to that point.
All of this 'but I've seen it and so has he' is hardly proof, especially using a speedo.
Me and a mate watched me recently get 170 out of my bog standard CTR... You can't dispute that.. because I said so.
Finally, a quick look puts the 325 standard (non convertible) top speed at 136 mph?
