My markD chip gives me 5hp extra. (tested on the same rolling road, with five minutes in between).

Don't know if that rolling road is any good actually, and the same goes for the chip. My previous engine went down after I did the timing chain and installed the chip. Still not sure if it was the chip or not. (has an oil pressure problem, makes a diesel sound now :()

Old thread alert, but that is some strange torque 'curve' on both Alex and Micks cars.

it seems to be 120lb.ft down on torque at that point too winkeye :P

that is a big dip though on any engine, do they all do this?

I hae been trying to find a dyno graph of my old one, but it is on a different computer I think. I don't remember that dip, and I can't really think of a good reason why it is there...

I think it is the scaling of the torque graph making it look worse than it actually is. But the numbers are so blurred it is hard to tell.

you're right about the torque scaling, it does make it look odd.

I am able to supply a 318is chip, as long as your original BMW chip number is 1 267 356 378.
Fellow Zoner treeseries tried one on his H-reg 318is, and reported good results.
The new chip gave a 7,000rpm rev limit.

to be fair you need a before and after dyno, i thought we might have had access to the dyno all day kind of thing, and i would have brought along a panel filter and the stock chip

Ps: dont forget them injectors today :D

Only after market filters to concider are the panel ones.

Cone filters, unless done right, don't help, apparently they even make the car lose power.

Not heard that one before.

What side effects does it give for not filtering properly? Shite making it's way into the engine?

Had a mix up i had two 325i ecu's that i thought were 318is 16v ecu's as i just compared them to the one in my car.

The real 318is 16v ecu number i have is
261 200 175 thats on the case
and the eprom chip number from what i can make out reads 1267356346

and i just found this on google
BMW 318iS 18L E30 100KW 1734060 06521 M17 CHK:3F8B BOSCH 0261200175 1267356346
so looks like the numbers are right

just hope i this bloke can sort me out as it would be a cheap upgrade but then lifes never easy

I have had an Evolve chip and an A Tech chip in mine and had them both on the dyno. The Evolve tested at Frosts in Ipswich showed 136 bhp and the A Tech tested at Circuit Motors, Castle Coombe 143.6bhp. Then I had Paul at Circuit Motors remap the car to 147bhp.

I have access to an eprom writer at work... If the old chips are rewritable then I might be able to upload the remap onto it. will need a copy of the performance chip though, I'm not offering this as a service but I was thinking about getting a chip for mine anyway and might investigate further.

has anyone removed the sticker from their chip? if so was there a little window under it?

Yes, the BMW standard EPROMs are Eraseable (Programmable, Read Only Memories) so remove the label to expose the window then use an ultra-violet eraser for half an hour or so to blank it then it's reprogrammable again.
