Where to buy oem
Moderator: martauto
Have just come off the phone with Sytner and they say that it's BMW policy not to have an over the phone payment method so I'd have to go in person to order ANYTHING.
Anyone confirm if this is true. I'm only after a few rubber seals godammit but they're not available in any old hardware store.
If you know of any UK shops/websites please let me know.
Cheers

Use cotswolds on here. Put a wanted add up in genuine parts department then ring and pay over the phone. I do it all the time. Postage is free on anything over £20 and what isnt

Mine won't do that for the simple reason that if I don't turn up, who the hell is going to walk in and ask for an E28 battery tray? They're starting to be a bit more reasonable though, as the order history piles up...Banjo1981 wrote:Tbf my local Sytner will order the stuff without payment and then I just pay when I collect.
My local dealer parts counter (Scotthall Watford) is very helpful, surprisingly, but they aren't as cheap as cotswold with zone discount. Gonna try Sytner Gerrards Cross soon to see what they are like.
Snakebrain, sounds like your dealers are knobs - it shouldn't be any trouble for them to send stuff back, and it just makes it seem as if they don't trust you, the customer. If they said that to me, I'd tell them where to go.

To be fair, most of them are complete pricks, though there are a couple of old boys in the parts dept who are helpfulness personified....djk wrote:Snakebrain, sounds like your dealers are knobs
I suspect if they were E46 M3 parts I was ordering I'd get a better reception.

It's not an unusual policy tbh. Most places I know operate that now. Stops problems later on. As for sending parts back. All manufacturers have different criteria. A headlamp for a E46 M3 would be easy. A headlamp for a E21 probably not. And then the dealer has to lump the cost of it sitting on their shelf.
I have found most but not all main dearler parts guys arnt intrested in the classics the parts or the people that own them especially when i go in there after a load of plastic clips that cost about 60p but take them a half hour to find

Parts that are not ordered in on a stock order ie, stuff the keep in stock cant be sent back easily so this is why some dealers are reluctant to order stuff in thats not held.djk wrote:My local dealer parts counter (Scotthall Watford) is very helpful, surprisingly, but they aren't as cheap as cotswold with zone discount. I don't give a monkeys.
When i've ordered from eurocarparts. they take my order and I go and pick up same day or next if they don't have it in store but at least they order it in no matter how big or small.
It's obviously a calculated move but i can only see Sytner losing out to such companies with 'not having a card payment facility over the phone'.
Tomorrow i'm going to phone up and ask for something for an 09/10 reg bmw m3 just to confirm whether it was a 'which car is it for' issue. Pricks

Try the shoe on the other foot how would you feel say some one buys something from you on say ebay and they dont collect or pay how would you feel look at it from both sides.johnnymac wrote:I don't give a monkeys.

Also the dealers i use radfords in stafford they have even started to deliver to me on there parts van that ios ment for trade only ive spent that much money in there

Can understand that as an individual seller but as a large company it's not the norm these days. If Eurocarparts and GF&S can do it amongst others I fail to see why an official BMW retailer cannot do the same. It's made all the more frustrating because when you ask the staff their best answer is 'I don't know, it's company policy'. I suppose if they could have given a proper answer I'd be less inclined to blast the policy.
Anyway my rubber seals have arrived thanks to bmminiparts so i'll climb off the soap box.
Cheers all.

I can understand the frustration of ordering in bits only for the punter not to pay/collect, but they are after all in retail, and it's hardly a very customer orientated policy. Not saying they should be hanged, just saying I wouldn't bother using them if that was their attitude - there are plenty of other dealers around who will be more accommodating.

But arn't the dealers a franchise?
If it's paid for over the phone via card and shown when you collect then where's the problem?
If only ANYTHING in life was as good as an E30.
