Sorry to come in late with this, but, from memory the build figures for "factory sanctioned" raritys breakdown thus:-
M3 shell:-
Hartge H36 -M3 with 330bhp 3.6 M5 engine - 6 built.
Alpina B6 3.5s - 62 built (and if I recall, 40 odd of them ended up in Japan?)
Sport Evolution M3 - 600 built (not sure if this figure includes the white cars that Kos refered to?)
Evo 1 M3 - 505 built.
Evo 2 M3 - 505 built.
Europameister M3 - 150 built.
Ravaglia M3 -
Cecotto M3 -
Cars built in standard (non M3 shell):
Alpina B6 - (standard shell M30, 260bhp) - 227 built.
Alpina c2 2.7 ? Does anyone have figures as to how many were converted by Sytners? I think the late ones were badged as B3's?
Alpina c2 2.5 ? As above?
In those days Hartge, ACSchnitzer etc were not "factory sanctioned". It was much, much later that Schnitzer was taken under the factory wing.
I've got an old copy of Performance Car buried in my loft with details of Hartge conversions that Birds were offering in the late 90s. I can't imagine that the RHD M3's should feature in a list of ratities either, they were a non-sanctioned bodge up IMO.
My understanding is that it took many years for Hartge cars to be appreciated as alternatives to, for example, the equivilent Alpina incarnations.
Nobody's mentionned the Hamann M3 with the (M101? turbocharged M30 3.5) that Fast Car tested in 1990 - I think it was black with yellow grilles?! Again the mag's in the loft - with a back to back of a Sport Evo and an Evo I 190 Merc.
Anyone agree that we should start a comprehensive list of the true rarities and their build numbers?

Alpina are aand have been since the late seveties.
AC schnitzer were also an official BMW product from the late 90's untill last year when BMW released their Perfomance range of parts.
When it comes to rare models you need to be talking single figures.
The rarest official BMW E30 i can think of is the RHD Alpina B6 2.8, only 1 ever made!
Reg is B6 MEE
Ok, well i would have to say mine is quite rare.
Its a L-reg 325i convertible in schwarz black.
I have seen a couple of 318's on a k plate, but never a 325 on a L reg in Black.
I know its only late registration but still rare. It was a Hexagon BMW dealer car.

i had a book called dream cars, with a foreword by franco sbarro and the last car in the book was clearly an e30 but looked weird

People will keep on over looking them until theres next to none left, then the prices of them will hit the roof when the tech2 fan boys finally realise the tech1 is just betterHartgeH27 wrote:Totally agree, people over look the Tech1................gaszman wrote:in the next 3 yrs the tech 1 will be a rare beast most will be piles of rust
Mind you with the amount of bruvved up tech2's about they will also soon be a rare car in un-messed with form, but its got a long way to go untill they are as rare as the tech1.
Would love to get the official figure for tech1 production, i know it was only roughly for a year or so so the numbers wouldnt be massive. Would also help if we knew how many were still left, some people say less than 100 are left, others say theres loads guess we will never know.
Am i right in thinking the tech1 was the first official BMW factory sporting 3 series? (not including alpina's etc)
2045. Although that includes 237 cars from 1988,some of which would be tech 2.Would love to get the official figure for tech1 production, i know it was only roughly for a year or so so the numbers wouldnt be massive
HTH.
Nope, E30 M3 made its debute at the 1985 Frankfurt motorshow.325isporttech1 wrote:Am i right in thinking the tech1 was the first official BMW factory sporting 3 series? (not including alpina's etc)

Cheers, its one off them things realy that could be impossible to find out 100% accurately, the most important question is how many are left in 2010csl wrote:Just to confirm...the figures i gave were from German production records that were retained by BMW GB Ltd.Apparently.
around 2000 then, quite a lot for the production run

But even rarer would a E30 M3 Convertible in Calypso Red, ultra rare....
We are probably tallking single figures here out of the total production of 786 M3 convertibles ever made.
