IIRC a genuine BMW one is somewhere around £200+VAT.

Be very careful if you use one if the mobile fitting chains (Autoglass etc), they 'screens they use are inferior and scratch very easily. I've done this twice now on different cars and had the same result both times. Next time I want a 'screen, I'll be getting a genuine one and fitting it myself.
If you aren't going through insurance, Autoglass etc aren't that much cheaper than BMW either.

gotta dissagree with that.

All auto glass is made and tested to the OEM spec. There are only a handfull of manufactures that produce the glass.
Nearly 90% of the glass supplied to german car makers comes from one producer. the same glass is supplied to these "mobile " chains, only difference is that there is no "BMW" or Audi" or "VW" stamp on them.
Glass changed under insurance is spec'd by the insurance companys.

Yes, i do represent one of these "Mobile fitting chains". (Not Autoglass)

Very simple DIY job to remove and refit an E30 windscreen, BTW. The only difficult bit is refitting the locking strip if you don't have the correct tool.

As above, removing and refitting a windscreen is easy with the correct tools. See what you can find on Ebay and the like.

Well, I can only speak as I find. The 'screen my local Autoglass fitted in my touring is branded "Safevue" and IMHO it's shite. It was badly scratched within a few months and when I went back and complained Autoglass didn't want to know. I've seen 10 year old perspex that isn't as badly scratched as my 'screen.

TBH, I would have expected a Pilkington 'screen for the price I paid, and I'm sure it would have been far better quality.

asked my hubby what nick its in and he says its in good nick, it passed an MOT anyway, also says its really easy to remove/refit.

Breaking a 318i lux 1990. had it a few years now but recently bought a 325i and the 318i isnt worth selling as its inner arch needs replacing and its worth more in bits and i need to recoup some of the money to put into the 325i

I've got a new tinted cab screen with the little green bit at the top on order with dealers just now, think it was around £180 (+vat) but they knock a few percent off that for older parts. I've also ordered new rubber and strips, add in the fitting and the whole lot will be over £300.

Well I got a nearly new screen off odbod's breaker for next to nothing and I slipped an auto windscreens man a few quid when they replaced the windscreen on my other car through the insurance.... Job well done lol

Simon (Odbod) said this screen was costly when he had it put in his

Safevue produce glass for the US domestic market.

A Few years ago (10-15) Safevue ,some would say, had a bad rep for producing poor quality glass. caused by using a cheap glass recipie.....there was a general concensous not to use thier glass over here.

Looks like you may of had some old stock fitted.

I removed a windscreen from a breaker at my local frag yard for £10 and it took 2 minutes.

Fitting it was pish easy too, but without the correct size diamond shape tool to get the strip back in it's a proper pain in the arse. You can buy the tool on ebay for about £10
