i guess you have never removed exhaust wrap thats been on a car for a while then ?AlpineAde wrote:Exhaust wrap ~ very common and used often. Keep those temps down!
a manifold wrap will reduce under bonnet temps and keep the manifold hotter if the manifold gets above its upper critical limit temperature which is far more likely when its been wrapped you will harden the steel ... and it will become very brittle and more likely infact almost certain to crack.
the way to go is a cermakrome coating from a company called camcoat or zircotec
its expensive but wont fuck the manifold and you will only have to get it done once.

Nope, never removed it. Why would I? I wouldn't use it. That hasn't stopped me seeing it on a load of cars, though. I think you've misunderstood the point of my post. Just because I've seen a lot of examples of wrap used doesn't mean I use it or think it the best solution ~ it just means that it's common to see. That's all.
And of course ceramic coating an exhaust is better. Why do I say that? Because that is the route I decided to take with mine. It can be pricey, however, but it is the way I decided to go. Again, the option of ceramic coating has not stopped me seeing exhaust wrap on loads of cars. Maybe people who use it just like it...for whatever reason they have?
