ive got a bit of a problem removing my old crusty handbrake cable's, i understand how they come out but the rubber has perished in the tubes that run underneath the car and as i was pulling them out this has happened

now as these are pretty firmly stuck in there, do the cables actually need to run through these tube's or not

if not can i run them outside of the tube's if i made up some brackets to hold the cables inplace etc???

this is a driftcar and not a show queen so practical solutions are what im after, i dont mind drilling into the floor etc to make brackets but if the tubes are needed then it looks like ive got to drop the tank (which is full) and the rear beam etc again to sort it

cheers

the 1st 15mm of the tube is actually the outer h-brake cable sleeve Dude.

cut the remainder of the cable and pull through , then clean-up the rusty bit left in the tube and you should be able to rotate it out with mole grips or similar

your new cables will provide you an idea of where to start looking

cable run outside of the tube is a BAD idea, drift car or otherwise.

thats just it i cant pull it through anymore it just gets completely stuck,

its the outer part of the cable that is stuck ive got the inner 'actual' cable through, im guessing hanging on it is going to be the only way just wondering if anyone had a clever solution.

why would it be a bad idea??? i only ask because ive been building honda's for years and the cable on them does'nt run in any enclosure, it's held in brackets underneath the chassis and runs along the rear trailing arm to the rear brakes.

cheers

Good quality set of mole grips and some WD and they will come out.

This is what you are looking for,

The bit that you have stuck is either side of the new cable, the 'removal tools' seen aided the ferrules out of the brake back plates, the end of the tubes was the easy bit for me!
Try a blowlamp on the end of the tube, whilst wiggling with mole grips.

Mmmmnnn.... Hated my handbrake cables too!!! Once I got those metal end cap bits out I couldn't get the ptfe liners out! Infuriating!!! I attached one of the old cables to a drill and reamed the tube out with that, got all the liners out easy then :D
