Thanks Dan, no Saxo's in the running. The chromie is up against some modern competition, but it is favoured to win atm. 8)

I have put alot of work into the 316, and its looking good, but is definately still a work in progress. I may have to clear out all the McDonalds, Subway & KFC rubbish, as my friends aren't kind enough to get out of the car and walk to a bin.

Dan, I think I did do well with my car tbh, and I love it too bits. At the end of this school year we have an awards show, and my chromie is in the running for 'best sixth formers car'. :D
What cars are up for the award?

Suppose, would be a nice achievment if it won, But the 500 is favoured with some of the girls as its pink and white.

I did think about the alpina steering wheel mainly, but after a price of £100 was suggested I thought, Wooooaaaah!!!!!!!! that a lot of money to spend on something for a 316.

Bloody hell. Very expensive cars for kids basically.

I remember my sixth form, some guy had brand new fully speced Merc A class. Quite a few new mini's as well.

If the judges of the competition are your own age (let's face it, a misguided bunch, present co. excepted) then perhaps you need to borrow some bling 17" rims for the day....

What bloody school do you go to? When I was in 6th form I had a rusty metro, my friend had a rusty clio and the rest of the cars were equally non descript - with all of us paying out the arse for insurance!

Apart from the Bug my car is the oldest there. There is only 5 cars older than 1998.

Oh and the lad with the mk6 golf, used to have an E46 which he wrote off. I posted that on the zone.

The comment was aimed at Daf318is in a jokey/ironic sense but your post got in the way.

I don't doubt it, I'm sure you were as proud of the top hat and cravat which you wore as you sped unencumbered by care nor worry, looking askance at the likes of me in my worn pantaloon and clogs, crawling to school through the snow... I think you get the idea.

I use to have to drive my mums Pug 205 Juniour. 900cc engine. It was small , white and it squeeked. We fondly called it the mouse. We still call the small car in the house hold the mouse to this day. One day my dad let me drive his e34 540i in , that was one of the best days of my life at school. I remember Metros were the most common car when I was at 6th form. One lad had a Xr2i, he thought he was the nutts. He slagged off my mums car and said he be able to beat any of my families cars. When I told me dad he called the insurance company up and gave me the keys to his 540 :)

I wanted to drive the 325i cabby in London with my mates. Unfortunately the insurance wont put my name down for one day. Too young. Would have been so cool.

I got my first BM when I was 22. I was working for Morrells of Oxford and living in Bedford. The insurance back then was like £900. I was earning about £170 a week at the time , I was lucky I lived in the pub too.

With me being a student scumbag now I am so glad I got classic insurance as god knows how I could afford to run anything half decent. Also the Recaros help me back so much it's a win win situation. The one thing I love is my corse it done at a further education college in a near by town to me, so when I drive in my pina still turns the head of alot of young kids thinking it's awsome. Just a shame when I get out they see it's a 30 year old who's not grown up and is a "mature" student lol!

I walked to school cos it was at the end of my road... :p

I didn't get my own car til I paid for it myself. £600 for a Primera eGT and it did 138mph... sexy! Course, this was in 2006 odd, and i'd been driving a sodding auto pug 206 for the time being

I used to go to uni in my E30 318i touring - was wicked - country roads in Warwickshire. Those were the days. Looking acbk, Im lucky not to have killed myself!

Ten years later, the 318 Touring has now turned into an E30 318i convertible (93 K plate). Not as fast as the touring, but a true classic!

My touring is my daily, thats what it was bought for, to take the pressure of the escort.

Theres a couple of niggles - speedo has a gammy connection so it comes and go's.
It sometimes idles lumpy/stalls during the first 10-15seconds of running - it'd be nice to sort that.
Washers pipes need tidying up (as they leak all over the inlet manifold), a couple of general connections (coolant level, stereo plug behind dash) and theres a clunk from the rear suspension -- sounds like top mounts.

I drive my 320 into uni every day, its well known and a lot of people love it. It has a stupid M badge on the back though, from the previous owner, and you would not believe the amount of morons who think i am driving an M3. Its pretty good entertainment

never really did cars while i was young enough to still be in 6th form, picked up one of these instead.

as far as the e30 goes, iv got a couple of odd knocks, thinking its the arbs, so just grabbed a full set of arb bushes and links,

temp sensor is playing up so its running rich, gone from 30-36mpg down to 25-30mpg. not good, got a new one already just need to fit it.

the drivers door lock is playing up, keeps grabbing the key and no letting go.

rear washer has never worked, not that that really bothers me much.

serious case of tapping, it dose seem to be the injectors though.

major case of bodyworkitis needs a pair of front wings, the rear rh quater painted and the rest of the car seriously fixed from pinkness.

steering has had a pull to the left for a while, still trying to determine if it needs jigging or if it needs a rear trailing arm,

ill get there though, nothings "wrong" with it in terms of it working like a car though. and it did a good job of making a mitsi FTO look limp and messing with a Civic type R earlier.

Hi firstly let me introduce myself , my name is Steve and I live in north somerset close to Bristol . I am a self employed carpenter / general builder and I run one of our tourers ( 1994 318i in Mauritius blue ) as a daily complete with roof bars and tow bar .I use a 1 ton braked trailer for the heavy stuff and a smaller trailer with matching 15" bbs for the lighter high speed loads . I have found that 12 sheets of 8x4 plaster board on the roof you get a eerie creaking noise from around the top of the doors  , I think it's trying to tell me something  . The only faults I have is the temperature gauge takes about 15 minutes to make up it's mind what it's going to tell me and the central locking prefers wet days to dry ones . With all this abuse it almost flew through the mot with just a broken rear spring letting it down (draw your own conclusions to why ). I have been running this one for about 18 months now and it is a replacement for another identical except 1.6 car which died a death ( of terminal rot not surprisingly abuse ) and is now spread around my garage for spares . The wife's daily is a 1994 318i tourer auto in sterling silver and I also have a 1992 325i tourer for evenings and weekends . So if you see a scruffy old sod in a dirty often overloaded tourer around the Bristol area give us a wave as I am not another driver I'm a zoner .

Hacking about every day in a Sport. Love it. My works vehicle is from the 70's and is very, very temperamental.

That said, whereabouts does the 'average' coolant temp gauge sit?
