London Insurance
Moderator: martauto
Is anyone getting a good price for insurance in London? I'm 34 have only held a license for a year and the car is garaged and used very little.. The quotes coming up are more like what you'd expect for a Bizzarrini Strada or some monster engined yank muscle car rather than a poverty spec 318i Auto

keep shopping around! Try a broker too.
If you can afford it, go for a massive excess (like £1000).
Rear wheel drive = expensive insurance

Age is a plus, location and experience is a minus.
Classic insurance usually requires use of another vehicle,ie,the 'classic' is a second car.

Youth is wasted on the young.
..I started working down the list of insurers in the sticky thread, will keep at it! Is it worth doing advanced driver training?/ fitting an alarm? Car came with an alarm but the remote was missing/ it could be dead..
Will definitely stack up the excess, it worked out cheaper on one quote to go fully comp with a £450 excess than to have third party insurance
I don't really need one car let alone two living in London, all the insurers seem to stack up the premium if you only have one vehicle though

There are quite a few companies that will give 10% off your premium if you are a member of a car club, if your premium is going to be high £40 to join the bmwcc could save you a lot more.
Would be interested to know if the E30Zone could be classed as a car club in the same way?

I said I was on a forum and that seemed to be good enough for them to tick the box.. Was toying with the idea of joining the german 3er club..clarko74 wrote:There are quite a few companies that will give 10% off your premium if you are a member of a car club, if your premium is going to be high £40 to join the bmwcc could save you a lot more.

The classic car policy is ok if you don't have any no cliams bonus because they don't use it.
But saying that they gave a quote last year that worked out a bit higher than the year before (surprise surprise). So i asked if he could better it, and he did. He quoted me £220 fully comp for inner london and not using my NCB
Still turned him down though, wish i hadn't because all the prices have now gone up again.

I've just gone down the classic insurance route for the first time, wish I had years ago now. 30 years old, zero no claims, 325i se and it came back at £217 fully comp. Although I'm not in London, but it's still a fantastic quote. Sure term I think they're called.
