Hello everyone i was wondering if anyone can help. I realised the other day my rev counter has stopped working. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Or has anyone had the same problem? Iv been thinking maybe a dodgy connection.

Cheers

There is a fuse for the rev counter - can't remember which off the top of my head but worth a look.

if its affected your speedo and other gauges as well, its the fuse. If its just the rev counter, i'd suspect a loose connection round the diff iirc.

I think you'll find that a wiring fault at the diff affects the speedo, rather than the tacho!
Is the temperature gauge behaving itself?
How about the service indicator LEDs?

Sounds like the SI board is playing up like Mr Moore has sugested. Shame your so far away as I got a spare rev counter you could have borrowed to see if it's just the part that has died or something bigger.

If the board has died it's very easy to replace and you can put the speedo in all types of cluster.

This happened to me with the speedo and rev counter - gave it a mild slap and it started working! Not a permanent fix but it will do for now :D

have the glovebox light, clock, mpg guage, and stereo stopped working as well? as they all seem to be on the same fuse..

I've also noticed that sometimes the speedo doesn't work, and i have to re-set the tripometer to get it to start working again!

I had the same problem. Yes the fuse for the tach was the problem. It is a 7.5a push in type fuse. The reason the fuse blew was the wiring for the reverse light. It is under the gear stick boot. if you take the boot off and look under the insulation you should see a wire with an inline fuse or conecetor. Check this to see if the the insulation has come off at any point on the wire. if it it has you will see some bare wire. If so rap some electrical tape around the exposed bit.
