As the title I was just wondering if this is a difficult or just fiddely job to do. As mine had the sense to fail 2day just as i had got the car back together!!

Sure it's the rear seal?
Gearbox selector shaft seal is a common leak, and the oil from this runs down to the top of the output shaft seal, around the sides and does a fairly good impression of a leak from here.
