Cheap RWD fun a bit like a Capri (and I have one of those too!)

I am now having all the cars I wanted when I was younger but couldn't afford.

Because I was told the IS was "fast", I liked the shape, and it's right wheel drive.

The only snag was the IS wasn't "fast"!! - soon fixed that though!

1. Properly engineered before everything went to CAD
2. Looks great
3. RWD
4. Fairly easy for DIY maintenance

My criteria when i bought the E30:

1 Rear Wheel Drive
2 More than 4 cylinders
3 Manual gearbox
4 Under £1500 (5 years ago)

There was nothing other than an E30 that fitted.

It was either an E30 cabrio or E36 cabrio.

The E30 cabrio has retro charm, looks great and is a classic. The E36 cabrio is just an 'old' car. :)

Always admired the old Mk1/2 Escrots but the E30 had the similar shape but with better build quality, a touch of class, and IRS.

So, when my 1968 Triumph Vitesse MKII started becoming too flaky, I p-ex'd it for a 1984 320i Moredoor. Since then, I've had a 1987 320iSE 2-door, 1988 325iSE 2-door and a 1989 325i Sport Tech 2.

When you want something smallish, lightish, RWD, strong, reliable mixed with a mild hint of practicality. There's only one answer :D

There is just nothing else like it for small old fashioned RWD fun at sensible money, and one of very few cars that are actually more enjoyable when it is raining. Which counts for a lot in the UK!

...and they are just look so damn 80s cool

It was THE car I wanted as an impressionable 13 year old way back in 1988. I just love the fact that they are now so cheap and reasonably straight forward to work on for a novice mechanic like me, along with being heaps of fun to drive. Just wish they weren't so damn rusty!!

Pros: Weekend car & a project. Great fun in the wet, light, chuckable, not fast (but its a cabrio, so speed aint important), and a front end look reminiscent of a classless mustang. Cheap insurance on the classic & bags full of character

Cons: Rust, ....er....., rust, .......um..... bolts welded to metal....., er...... more rust....

Fun to drive,

Easy to park (important with me being a woman lol)

Cheap

Unusual enough to be a conversation starter but spares in plentiful supply

Nice and straightforward (ish!) to work on

Has no front airbag so I can have a car seat in the front!

First liked it when I watched that crap film with Tom Hanks in it (not Splash!), he drove a black one and thought it was cool. Then in menace 2 society, Kane drove a cabby.

Plus it made me feel like this;
