Do you have a subwoofer if so your power supply or earth is not good enough also some head units require a better power supply than the standard one that comes as part of the loom.

Try running a power supply direct from your battery to the head unit and remember to put a fuse in

Your Headunit won't work with the E30 wiring of the speakers. They share one ground.

I'm fairly confident it will sort your problem out, do the lights flicker on your head unit if so running a direct power lead to your unit should also cure this as well

Yes. :-)

It depends upon different things. A premium soundsytem has always shared grounds. Non-soundsystem does until the changig of the radio plug to the new version.

A radio connected to the factory-made wiring can show several symptoms. Overheating, scratching noises and so on.

Easy way to fix it is using new wires to the speakers.

Really? my current set-up has had all the speakers re-wired and the speakers are also amped but on my old e30 i was just running OE speakers and an OE loom plugged in to the same head unit and had no problems what so ever :?

Did you have the large radio plug with 17 pins?

Maybe the Threadstarter can tell us a little bit more? Speakers have still the original wiring?

At least in germany, the E30 came never with ISO. Early models had DIN Speaker plugs and seperated wires. Late models came with the large 17 pin BMW plug, which was used in later BMW models as well.

Prehaps i'm wrong i've only had two E30's first one had ISO which looked standard but i have to admit my current e30 had terrible excuse for wires behind the headunit

A lot of cars have. I used a BMW wiring loom to retrofit the ISO plugs for my Traffic Pro.

It may be cutting out to avoid clipping try running a permanent live directly from the battery..

Can you fettle the crossover on your headunit?
