What makes you say that? I've got a genuine GruppeM on my Evo and it sounds the mutts!!DanThe wrote:All_Torque wrote: a DaveF or GruppeM rep air filter
I dont think so...
I've also got a DaveF on my Sport, which doesn't sounf too bad either
But either one sounds sooooo much better than stock
World E36..
The car will be used for the odd track day and for the anual pilgrimage to the Nordschleife so coilovers would be desirable and billys would be my choice if i went down the coilover route as the quality of Bilstein is second to none. My only concern is how firm they will be even on the softest setting and a sensible ride height. The roads where i live are full of pot holes.All_Torque wrote:Sounds like a bargain mate!
Personally I wouldn't go for PSS9's unless you plan to track the car. They are without doubt one of the best coilys you can get, but I'd only really pay that premuim if I intended on tracking the beast.
I'd recommend a set of KW V1's or V2's or Eibach Pro kit for everyday useability, comfort, excellent handling but without a hefty premuim
I'd also recommend a DaveF or GruppeM rep air filter - nothing like the sound of a screaming S50And get some Denso Iridiums and Motul 300v in there too!
Hartge's would be nice but as an ACS fiend I'd say speak to Claus and get some split 2's![]()
Is it a manual or SMG mate?
Not so sure about an induction kit but if i had the money a carbon airbox and some schrick 284's would be going in!
The car is a manual, i would NEVER entertain the woefully crap SMG1!

KEEP IT STOCK !!!!!
Leave the slamming and the councilling to the peasants. A bog standard evo is a serious car and a nice standard one will always have a value. But you already know that don't you Barry !

Sounds good mate, glad it's a manual! Get yourself a braided clutch hose if you haven't already - it makes a massive difference to clutch feel and helps improve the infamous low biting point Evo's suffer with.
I'd have to agree with the Billy's - no doubt they're fab on the track but I agree I think they'd be a little too stiff for everyday road use.
A MAFless carbon airbox/AlphaN with some wild cams would be immense on the track!

Going to fit some ARP rod bolts old bean?
I had forgot about the need for them! Thanks for reminding me old china!E30BeemerLad wrote:Going to fit some ARP rod bolts old bean?
So yes, along with a new vanos filter and solenoid cover bolts.
I've thought about it now and i'm just gonna go for a bilstein shock and spring combo all round and maybe some roll bars.
I'm sure with decent rubber it will be fine round the Ring.
Don't change the springs! Standard M3 springs are really good, as are standard shocks but the Boge shocks (mainly the fronts) are known to go soft after 50-60 thou. I would add a set of Bilstein B8's to standard springs and then add some stiffer anti roll bars.
The other worthwhile mod is a braided clutch hose - the stories of the gearchange becoming really difficult when it's good and hot are true.

Very nice, if i had to buy e36 m3 (like i
would need perswading) that car would be the pinical of what i'd want. IMO the sunflower rims are by far the nicest OEM wheel for the e36 espeicaly in estoril blue. Much better than the 5 spoke motor sport wheel which again IMO look abit chav.
Freinds got a CSL with the KW v2s on it and loves the ride does trackdays and 3+ ring trips a year but is still softenough to use for work when its a nice day.

Look into a braided clutch line as well chap, apparently well worthwhile on those.
If you're looking for a slightly cheaper suspension solution I can highly reccomend AP coilovers. Supposedly built by the same people as Weitec.
Fixed damping only adjustable height but very good quality bits of kit. You can see the build and material quality the second you pull them out of the box and imo they are set perfectly for fast road use.
Wouldn't be my choice again for track only (which is kind of what I bought them for on a budget
) but the ride and handling compromise across the UK's main roads and back roads imo is perfect.
Best part is they are only £430 even for the M3 iirc.

Right a few questions that need answering,
Who sells the braided clutch hose?
Are 840i brembos a direct fit and are they the same as E38 735i/740i ones?
What is a CDV?

cdv= clutch delay valve, its supposed to put less stress on the drivetrain when changing gear...so iv been told... i pass on the first one mate lol!
Doh, should have realised what the CDV is but it thought it was an E46 thing so it threw me out.

Fairly certain they do.. Either that or there is much talk over deleting it for nothing..
In fact.. Realoem would be listing it for nothing also then..

Yes, No
Already answered, but needs removing
I don't think it will have a CDV, I think it was e46s that got one. It is pretty easy to check anyhow. I was expecting one on my e39, but it didn't have one.
I wonder if it is something that is more common in America, after all they have fat feet.
Strange, in that case you may well be right. As mine didn't have it listed(it was pictured) and it wasn't there. I'd still be slightly suprised unless this is a last of the line evo?
My e39 with what feels like strange clutch action/engagement was actually to do with the traction control setup. Limits the power everytime you change gear hard. I think I might turn that off tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure Bexley Motorsport sell the braided clutch, C3BMW used to do them too - not sure if they still do. 99% stealers can't get them anymore.bss325i wrote:Right a few questions that need answering,

Make sure it's an Evo one you get and not a 3.0 one though. Most people will tell you they're the same but the Evo one has a pressure switch at the top (which is not a CDV)
840 Brembos are a direct fit, E38 have different mounting points so will not fit without a fabricated bracket.
CDV - Clutch Delay Valve - Evo's don't have them, they have a pressure switch. Taken off another forum:
"It was part of the improved "stop start" system.
in other words the ecu could detect when the clutch was
about to become engaged & the engine revs would fall....
the ecu opens the idle air valve slightly to compensate.
Just like any driver would open the throttle slightly when releasing
the clutch. Makes for smoother shifts and helps protect the gearbox and
driveline from the pressure of a full bore shift
It was fitted to very late model 3.0 M3's, M3 evo and all the E34 M5's
Would imagine the car would throw a fault code if its not connected."

My e36 328i had a CDV and I thought the evo did too. Definitely not exclusively an e46 thing.

I will look into the CDV thing.
I got a price on 4 Bilstein B6 dampers, £547 including vat! Not bad! Prob gonna go for them
I have already ordered up a vanos screw filter, vanos soleniod cover bolts, front control arm bushes, E46 M3 cab rear top mounts and 2 michelin pilot sports for the rear.
I'll get a braided clutch hose and some braided brake hoses to.
Still undecided weather to keep the standard springs or go for an Eibach pro kit.

Just get the coilovers! I ummed and erred for months before getting my Billys and HR Race springs for the M3. They're fine but with hindsight I wish Id paid the extra £2-300 and got coils. You'll be forever wondering.
"what if..."
And at least the coils will sell easy if you want to go to regulars.

Unfortunately the mrs will have to drive the car some of the time and she's not the best at avoiding pot holes.
