Do the interior lights still come on when you open the driver's door? If not, I reckon the pin switch in the driver's doorjamb is stuck in, or the spring's popped out of it or something. Should be a simple fix.

There are two fuses (sorry, can't remember which ones they are off the top of my head). Have you checked both? One is for when the ignition is on, one for when the doors are open/ign off.

I've only seen it work on moredoors, like mine and my mates (which are also both SE's). My 2dr, another mates 2dr both didn't do it.

Could it be a little feature, or are the 2drs just buggered?:P

Do the windows work with the ignition/car on/running?

Do the switch lights illuminate with the doors open and ignition off?

If the windows work with the door open/ignition off it won't be door pin related, or anything in common between the two systems (isolator switch, motors, etc). My money is on the fuse. I'm sure Brian has answered this sort of problem before and listed the fuses.

I've seen it before without fuse problems... or maybe the fuse wasn't present :?

I'll check later.

Had this problem on my old 320i - it was the wiring loom that runs into the door from the A-post. A quick wiggle of the wires and it was working again.
