I didnt say they be live mapping

My point is your paying a lot of money for a standard map file, other similar packages iv used offer a selection of ready made tuned files to start from.

Like i said iv used similar stuff on Fords and Vauxhalls with great results so im no way against them atall, like running turbo conversion of n/a car or itbs even if the car in question has no such oe inputs the software allows you to manipulate the MAS and TPS sensors signals but thats a whole different topic....

I suppose when people ragging it up and down roads staring at a laptops is when live mapping is done, i must admit ive done this on an airfield with a mate sitting beside me on his car using another setup BUT i would not condone a thing as such on streets because its dangerous and can cause lifes.. i do see what you mean...

Different companys would produce different packags and programmes for there hardware, some are easy i guess others maybe challenging... to have control over your car`s ecu is great if you know what your doing but if you dont and have the hardware then maybe good idea to do a research in this and work out a way that makes it easier for your self if damage can occur is best avoided.. like upping the Rev abrrier from 7000 to 8000 ++++ e.t.c. thinking your car may handle it or just experimenting and bang goes the bottom end or even rockers snapping that ive seen.. :D :D :D

Nobody really understands what's its purpose since you can buy specific chips to suit your own spec within the UK for considerably less money and less risk as someone else has done the hard work building the maps for each spec of engines with proven records.

I also agree with fuzzy its also highly dangerous giving people with a little bit of basic knowledge the access to screw up thier own engine and who will these people blame when they do? certainly not themselves

The miller war chip your paying for a OE map not a tuned one? I used a similar package for Fords and Vauxhalls but you pay for an already professionally tuned maps not just one but 5 and 2 of these is open to further editing which seems to be a much better value and safer idea.

Also i think its important to mention not everybody has access or willing to buy the required hardware to actually properly map thier own cars via the millers war chip and i genuinely fear people ragging it up and down roads staring at a laptops and potentially causing fatal accidents.
It is no different to MS or any standalone or piggyback TBH in philosophy.

It is not a lot of money and some ECU don't even give you a start up file. It is obviously not for everyone but this is a new product and those with the know will get good use from it.

Funnily enough, this has been a grave concern of mine lately. You see many posts on various forums about mapping management systems on the road.. It is ofcourse plain stupid!
Maybe check AFR's on the road, but playing with a laptop too with trying to keep on the same load/rpm site... those guys need shooting! Using mobile phones while driving suddenly seem to be a safe activity when you compare to that.
E30 M3 Unichip Alpha N style conversions, this is the ultimate for extracting the best out of your S14 M power car.
Also, Live mapping of your Standard Motronic ECU for optimising all your modifications.

I have been following this thread as I have expressed interest in this product.Thank you,Alex, for the above link,I spent a while yesterday morning reading through Miller's site and studying the manual.
Now it seems to me that this WAR gadget will allow us to retain 4 different MAPS,confusingly,Miller refere to these as 'tunes'..
Further,we will be able to ajust the idle point, rev limit, ignition timing and fuel/air mix.Now this sounds very interesting, but hang on,the device is so arranged that no ajustments can be made whilst the engine is running...unlike M/S...
Also, there is no provision for reading live fueling...unlike M/S...
So unless you have unlimited access to a rolling road or at least an exhaust gas aniliser that you can read whilst under load this gadget is just that,a gadget!
Now Miller make a great deal of this 'sharing tunes'(MAPS?)on their website, but no mention of just how this may work...
I bought a Miller MAF a while back, they promised me 'unlimited chips until I was satisfied'...
After a rolling road day at Evolve in November '07 I contacted Miller to let them know that my engine with their MAF and chip was overfueling above 3000rpm,I emailed them dyno graphs as requested, then heard no more, despite several emails being exchanged,'they were very busy' ,'they were moving business premises',(very odd, that one, still the same addy on their web site...)
So,alpina, can you convince me that this WAR thing will work with my M20 2.7,and will a second one work with my M50?
How,exactly,do we measure air/fuel ratio and make ajustments under load conditions?
Youth is wasted on the young.

^^^^^ what he said..... Daimlerman

Im pretty good with cars and I have a good understanding of them, but how the hell does a novice get the best out of this thing? If your Ant, Gunni or speedtouch I am sure you will see great gains but for the rest of us I think all we would do is burn holes in our pistons..

I think I will just get a regular chip of a know expert, rather then someone convince me i am the expert... I can do alot of things but im not deluded enough to risk my motor on a new toy..

Most of us we would tune it so it goes like stink then never ever play with that switch again.. its just a gimmick.

@daimlerman,

the war chip itself has a map on it which is a basic to run your car, ok there a various maps you can upload, so lets say you upload a 2.5 map you take it from there on for the advancing and fueling via parameter adjustments to suit your car... on another hand if you have a 2.7 chip for your car which you currently use, if youknow someone thatcan extract the files from the chip and have it saved you can send the file in to miller and they can convert it to run on war chip and then take it from there to play around with it.. my 3 settings that i have for my car and im still playing with it.. is map 1 - 325 file, map 2- 2.8 file, map 3 - GenIII Maf with modified 2.8l 5% advance.. but my maf isnt connected yet... and when you change maps you can hear the cars charecteristics differ from each other.... the fact that you can have control over your car via a usb and some knowledge its when the fun begins.. now miller are bringing a small video in a couple of weeks i.e. "idiots guide" kind of thing.... to explain what does what... so as soon as i get that video ill post a link

I'll go back and re-read this thread for sure. Will be nice to get more info on it. I've decided to go with this setup for now as it will be more simple that megasquirt, AND IT'S SWITCHABLE.

Over here (especially where I live) E85 is very common. I would like to be able to switch from a tune running E85, to a tune running regular premium fuel-93 octane rating.
