Sorry if this has been asked before but a search for "M Badge" brings up a million results.

I've seen a few cars on here with M badges on the front grille and I think they look good. I assume these are not original though? Those that have got them, where did you get them? The nicest ones I've seen look pretty small?

No sports had M badges fitted at the factory but when purchased new, some customers/dealers put them on either the front, rear or both.

Cheers. I may get one then as it was an option :) Not too keen on the boot ones though.

I agree. Not keen on the boot ones but on the grill, they do look good imho.
As above,i remember new Sports around at the time with these badges on and like bss says they would have been fit by dealer at customer request.
In my view there is nothing wrong with it either as on later Sports they came with the same motif on the steering wheel anyway.

Yeah, I don't mind fitting one so long as it was something that may have been added at the time. Ordered one today - £20 from the main dealer for anyone interested

Goes on the right side on the bottom slat with space behind it. Will be about 4 slats up from the bottom. Set as far to the right.

The badge has two flexable prongs the bend over the slat.

Yeah, I agree with that - I'd never badge a car up as something it wasn't.

Looking at the parts available at the time, you could get an M3 front badge and an M badge. So if the M3 badge was meant for an M3, then the M badge must have been for the sport I reckon. The body kit says M-Technic on it so that's good enough for me :D

It was probably the start of BMW slapping a few badges on a car with uprated suspension and calling it an M-Sport. Same trick they pull today winkeye

At the end of the day it's a nice touch on the grill. The Mtech stuff is nice stuff to have on a car so why not eh?

M isn't just for Motorsport, its for M technic as well.

A sport has an M technic bodykit, M technic suspension and an M technic steering wheel as standard so a M badge is fair game if you ask me.

Spot on. Exactly the same as an e39 MSport. They all come with the MTech suspension, steering wheel, front and rear bumpers, sill tread plates and gearknob if it's a manual. Many were debadged from new then had dealer fitted M Badges to the boot.

The e30 is a pukka recognised M car by the dealer. An M badge is appropriate on such a car.

At least you don't have to give your VIN and undergo a interigation to get a badge like I have to LOL.
