I think not.

All this waffle about "superior hadling through the twisties" is an utter load of yarn!

6 pot E30's handle perfectly well, as demonstrated last weekend!

Are you mental? You actually believe that a slight weight advantage up front is enough to compensate for having 30bhp less???

Whether it's in a straight line or otherwise. The 318is can't compete with the bigger boys.

I've had 15 318is's and only 3 325i's and I can say that for definite.

its not just the saying no every time but the feeling of inferiority youd feel knowing the person that asked that question is a tad disappointed in your lesser car whilst smiling smugly. :D

318is = a poor mans sport winkeye

I want a galvaniser special because the body is usually solid and i need a solid 2 door shell for my project :(

I think it's due to them being hidden away in garages most of their lives after being Humiliated at the light's by some old dear in a nissan micra ls :snigger:

Seriously now,

This is no 4 pot dig.

My car is no pride and joy, infact it isn't well looked after tbh, just a runabout for work.
But when i get in it and flick the key, the engine bursts into life with that lovely burble, the engine pulls effortlessly along on low revs and every gear change is a plesure as the notchy box clicks into gear and the engine note changes, people stare as it goes by possibly due to the gorgeous sound.

There is a pucca feeling when going for a cruise with the sunroof half back on a summer evening driving somthing which sounds and feels like a propper car and and i just cant see a four pot filling thease shoes, nothing to do with the power just the engineering and feel of it.

Come on, Rav. Someone could ask a question about growing cabbages in the Pub Talk section and it would turn into a 4 pot / 6 pot debate :giggle:

By the sounds of the title you're a bit upset at CTR 'owners' or did you let several friends have a go at taking on that 4 pot hot hatch destroying miracle?

Either way it's a silly thread about bragging over beating a car you couldn't ever possibly beat.

that made me laugh :D

how come m division put a 4cyl in their most succesful touring car?

Colin Chapman knew more about handling than god himself, and whilst other teams putting forward large capacity long crank engines, lotus were buzzing past them in sub 2L cars, until he was baaned for using ground effects!!.. I have a 4 pot in my lotus.. Not quite a cosworth tho Fuzzy, mucho respect there..

well, for me the only thing laughable is the price I paid for it.. The brand new shocks & springs it came with, cost the guy more than he sold it for, not to mention the quick shift, the immaculate dark check interior with rhr & stainless system.. I couldn't have spent a days earnings more wisely, but feel free to criticise my daily 35mpg ragging machine

You felt it necessary to comment without anyone elses help, so that in itself says to me that you have an opinion which you took the time to publish

Just what is laughable about my iS?

I think what the op was getting at was the type r drivers have often gone out and bought a car which they cannot drive, but rely on the car to be a hero for them.
I believe this was an example of the other guy having the right tools and no idea what to do with them.

Didn't matter wether it be an IS or a mini, if the guy cant drive the civic it wont win, even if its faster..?

Was the CTR driver bedding the engine in by not using more than 3000rpm? :)

That would explain why it JUST got beat.

entirely.. thanks sumpcracker, the fact it's evolved into another iS hating session is beyond me - I'm off to jizz all over my sodium cooled valves, pent head, and duplex chain.

I just had a funny thought.

Would you say Civic owners would fall with in the group of loving Halfords?

I was in there today getting some bits I needed and while I was killing some time I took a gander round and saw the badges section. Low and Behold you could buy a ton o stuff to make a normal Civic or any Honda have the "Type-R" badge and the red Honda badges. What do people think the chances were this was a guttless Civic giving the burberry Halfords effect?

When you think about it, if a young lad is behind the wheel and is thrashing it no doubt he can't affaord the real deal or the insurance? I'm remember the Civic being a heavy car ( like most modern cars are tbh ) and I bet they is a range of utter guttless povity spec engines you could have?

that is a mighty good point, but no, in a straight line it goes like a b@stard! There's an alarming amount of numbers on the rev counter too

The V-Tech engines are utter maddness. One of the Dr's at works got a S2000 and he took me out for a spin in it. The thing rev's like crazy and then the cams kick in and the bloody thing goes even higher. One day a V-Tech engine will cause a black hole with the speed it goes at!

I know the S2000 engine is not used in the Civic but they are just as crazy. They go up to what 9k -10k rpm before they redline?
