For the past couple of days there has been an intermitent grinding noise from my rear wheel and the handbrake has been really loose. When I took the wheel off I found this

I have taken the whole shoe off now and I take it the bent pin in the first pic should be straight like the other one.

My question is do i just need a new pin and spring and when i come to refit how the hell do i take the wheel hub off to get the shoe back on. I tried turning the big nut in the middle but didn't want to try too hard as it was on the bmw jack and it didn't look very safe.

Also after I took the shoe off it was driving fine then there was a clunk and something was catching on the wheel as I drove and the handbrake went very stiff. I parked up and could not see anything, after I reversed out of the parking bay and carried on the sound went.

Cheers,

Did the pin pull through the hole in the back plate? If so you might need to think about putting a small washer on the pin before refitting.
The big nut does NOT need to be undone to remove brake shoes or wheel cylinders. It is a case of fitting the shoes and the springs around the hub and then fastening them down by the pins and twisty bit.
