Hi there.. 320i '89. just wanted to know has anyone been successful in ftting a window "smart opening system" to enable the glass to drop by 25mm and clear the soft top on initial access to the car. (fitted to E36) I have just had a new hood fitted, very pleased too and want to keep the hood from damage. Cheers Dave :D

I've just had a new hood fitted and found that the window no longer catches the hood as it did the old one - if yours is catching it maybe just needs a slight adjustment.

Never heard of that before on a E30, i've heard of the 'Full Closure' alarm but that only closes the windows AFAIK

no such thing mate.. best would be the full closure module, so windows go up auto once alarm has been activated !

The E36 uses the system.. I wonder if it is possible to utilise it. Thanks for comments.. I will have to have word with Andy Everett or Dave Cooke at Parkside Worksop.. someone must have had a go :P

I will try and find out.. I am new to the forum when it comes to communications, however, it would be good to be a first at such a thing... I suppose if I try and utlise the central locking system that would be a start, must do some digging..

this has been discussed before, firstly if your doors and roof are properly adjusted there is no need for this system.

but if you must have a play then the problem becomes how to trigger the windows to open/close. IIRC the E36 and others have a sensor on the door handles which drops the window when the door handles are operated, then closes presumably once the door is closed and the interior light switch is operated. So while the system is not difficult to make work there are plenty of things to think about, and a five minute job of adjusting the hood frame/window join is an easier option.

But dont let me stop you!

I was considering putting the E36 control unit in so you only had to hit one button to get all the windows to drop and then the roof.
I looked into it and then lost interest because it involves changing all the window motors to E36 ones (4 wires) and keeping the E30 mechanisms, then trying to get the looms through the A pillers using the E30 plugs. That would come down to pulling individual pins out of the sockets and stripping the whole interior. Just too much work for too little gain.
It would be nice to have and a glovebox linked to the central locking winkeye

Did the E36 cab drop the windows when the handles pulled or was it just the coupe ?
There is NO nucleus.

If God had meant the e30 convertibles windows to drop on opening the door, BMW would have fitted it.

Get your hood and windowes adjusted properly and this is not a requirement!
