Advice needed on a 325 sport cabby purchase.
Moderator: martauto
Hello everyone, I am looking to purchase an e30 325 sport cabby for use as a summer car, apart from the usual things to look for in buying a car, owners, service history etc. what do I need to look out for when buying one?
The car will only cover approx 2k per year, it'll be garaged on rainy days and during the winter, so what sort of services will I need to get done?
What sort of money would I expect to pay for a well looked after example?
Thanks
Gary

Check the roof works correctly, if it's electric it can be a PITA to fix
Check for rust like any other E30, rear arches and the boot are 2 good areas to check especially.
What's your budget?

Be careful, you can have a motorsport cab but not a 325i sport convertable. The motorsport cabs are harder to find and are normally all autos.

You sound like you're looking for a MOTORSPORT Convertible. Never such a thing as mtech convertibles. It's the Motorsport's that came with the Tech2 kit as standard in a selected range of colours.steeleez wrote:Sorry lads, didn't mean sport but the mtech. The mtech II's look stunning
You will however, see regular 325i convertibles where someone has fitted a tech 2 kit.
The easiest way to identify a GENUINE motorsport is to take the chassis number to your local dealer and get him to run it through the database.
A genuine motorsport came with extended leather which included the door panels and hand stitched centre console.
There were also a metal bumper motorsport (with no body kit) prior to the later car with the kit.
Hope that clears it up for you.
Oh and you're looking at £4.5k up for a half decent one.

Hi Gary,
I have seen this one advertised in the West Midlands recently, I came across it whilst looking at other E30s: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C83250/
Looks very genuine and very low mileage too. Not sure if its still for sale but have a look.

Ritz, sorry mate, that looks moody to me. Wrong interior (no convertibles came with comfort seats) and the guy is a deluded maniac if he thinks G864 VYN is worth £70k (!!!!!!!!) and the fact he's factored a replacement rear screen in the price. Plus it's a 320. Yes it's a low miler and yes it has AC (albeit dealer fit) but thats about it.Ritz wrote:Hi Gary,

this might help

best check is to ask a dealer with the vin no and they will give you the original spec
now I was under the impression that they were MTech not Motorsport ........(M Technic Luxusausstattung" option (M Technic Luxury Equipment):
and a lot of MTechs came with the special Bubble leather seats ..looks good in good condition but most of them have wear probs and the finish is not replaceable

There's a ropey looking one for sale near me its only £1100 if anyones got the money might be worth buying it to frag. Looks genuine to me or if its not then someone has had there hands on a genuine one as it has every thing its supposed to have.

Be Patient and wait for the right one. I managed to buy my motorsport convertible at a good price but with the power roof not working. Was a pain in the arse to sort it but the rewards in the sun are well worth it. I hope to get some photos up next week some time. I'm taking the spoilered boot lid off and replacing it with a non spoiled bootlid this week and getting the car machine polished all over. I can't wait... I'm hoping to make the stevenage meet on the 18th.

ask for a bucket of water and chuck it over the roof to see if its leaking!
