I've voted yes, based on the fact that you don't appear to use your car that often (and the application of clay bar does not constitute 'use' in my mind) based on some of your posts here.
Hang up your polishing cloth and get it driven - stripped if you wish, or not if you don't. I can see you've put a lot of effort into the 325, but it's a big shiny ornament at the moment.
What will give you more satisfaction? Throwing it into the corners on some rack track, or seeing your own face reflecting back from the paintwork?
Good luck with your choice, though, Dave

I use mine for both Dave, don't see the problem. You are more likely to get it smacked on the road by some clueless tw@t than on the track tbh.
One thing though if is this your purely fun car these days like mine and as I only do a couple of trackday's a year I prefer keeping the car as nice as BMW intended inside and upgrading the parts to make it better on the track. I think stripping it out would ruin it for when you want to roll to shows/meets etc...

Just what I was thinking. So a No vote from me.madaboutthe30 wrote:Your car at the moment is a pampered garage queen. How you going to feel tomorrow if you accidentally come of the track into a hedge, and scratch the hell out of something you've spent ages waxing and looking after?

Dave I've voted no but if this was a poll on getting it out the garage and using it id vote yes..
hope i don't upset any one here... but i read posts about i just clay barred my car and here's the pics... why not use it as it was designed for... drive the feckin thing!!!

another no vote from me - think about all the things that are well sorted on that car, ages of work getting all of the electrics/interior etc. up to scratch to then strip it out.......
plus you'll never truly thrash it, it'll have a little too much sentimental value :p......
get another one and M50/M30 it.....

You might lose 100kilos if you went a bit nuts, but just don't carry a passenger around with you on track.
Stripped out cars if you use them at all on the road are a total pain in the arse, the novelty factor wears off after about 3 seconds. Trust me.
totally true!
And how is tucking the sport up over winter, using it like it was designed forjbh wrote:hope i don't upset any one here... but i read posts about i just clay barred my car and here's the pics... why not use it as it was designed for... drive the feckin thing!!!

I clay my car but it also gets used in most weathers (not snow) all year round. Nothing wrong with ragging a clean car.

don't strip it yet. do a couple of trackdays as is to see whether you enjoy them and want to do more / take it more seriously.
if you do get the bug, then go for it. plenty of tidy track cars out there, a trackday car doesnt have to be a rotten shitter will a roll cage, and likewise, taking a decent car on track doesnt instantly turn it into a scabby lump of scrap.
airfield days are usually the worst for stone chips, but tracks generally arent too bad unless someone runs wide onto the grass / gravel in front of you. might be worth getting a couple of rolls of blue 3m masking tape to cover the lights and leading edge of the bonnet if you're worried.
a trackday isnt a race, you dont have to sit 2 inches from the bumper of the car infront, you don't have to push at 10/10ths constantly. and in my experiance, the people who turn up with the sheddiest cars tend to have the worst driving standards and get moaned about by everyone else there. at least it makes them easy to spot and keep out of the way of.

i used to polisy my cossie 8 hours a day on the weekends - had all the polished tanks, etc.
then done a trackday and was instantly hooked. Needless to say the car got les sand less polish over the years and more abuse but it still looked good until i ran out of talent at Coombe a few years back but got away with minimal damage which is how the car stayed for another year until i stripped it for parts.
Now have an E30 project trak/drift car to smash to bits lol
