Just been on to my insurance company andto convert my m40 slushbox lump to an m42 manual will cost me nothing other than a £26 admin fee.

Rather chuffed now especially since the first company I insured it with made a big fuss in asking me several tims wether it was a 318I and not an IS.

thats not bad, mind you the company im with direct line costs more for an m40 than an m42

once the IS engine is in you can replace it with a proper engine

only kidding :D

Mine was about the same when I declared my M42 swap. Nicely surprised I was, still, the iS was cheaper to insure than the 318i touring when it still had the M40 in, go figure :?

M52 would be the prefered choice between m50 and m52, however I would be sticking m50 throttle bodies on, but I want to bring my insurance down on a smaller engine first.

You could check how much extra it would be to have the M42 supercharged too winkeye

Not made of money, whence the 42 and ot the 52.

I blame Steve E30, everytime I talk to him it costs me money and it was his idea to do the IS conversion!

If I was in the UK, I'd have the M52 in a shot, be a fantastic road car and for the times you want to have fun being only 14kgs heavier than an M42 and the possiblity of having 100bhp more with just a few mods.

It's only our stupid greedy government that makes the M42 make sence over here... plus, I'm a fussy fecker winkeye

I reckon the 2.8 would nearly be better on fuel than the b25 though like a 325 is better than the 320.. plus the fact that the car will be 14kg lighter with the M52 :)

Insurance and tax is what stops me getting one though...
Tax would be over double what we have to pay for the 1.8

My wife has one in her E46, if this one gets written off like the last one (4.4 M62/6 speed manual) I'll know better than to let the insurance get their mitts on the salvage.

Ahh, give all those new cars time and they'll be off to the scrap yards being thrown away for new models winkeye

A written off 330Ci clubsport would hold a few tasty bits for an E30 like the engine, rack and brakes :D

Only thing about the newer engines is the wiring would be a pain...

because we are saving you money in these hard times.

I think I'm right in saying the m54 is a bit of a mare to fit to an e30.. was half asleep at the time though. if it's do-able at all!
